This document provides essential operating instructions for the HiKOKI cordless driver drills (DS 14DJL, DS 18DJL) and combi drills (DV 14DJL, DV 18DJL). Always read the full safety warnings provided in the manual before use.

Battery Charging
Before using the tool, charge the battery:
- Connect the charger power cord to a receptacle. The pilot lamp will blink in red (1-second intervals).
- Insert the battery firmly into the charger.
- Charging begins automatically; the pilot lamp will light continuously in red.
- When fully charged, the pilot lamp will blink in red (1-second intervals).
Caution: If the battery is hot due to direct sunlight or recent use, let it cool before charging. If the pilot lamp flickers (0.2-second intervals), check for foreign objects in the charger connector.
Operation

- Tightening torque: Adjust using the clutch dial.
- Drilling/Impact mode: Select the appropriate position using the mode selector.
- Speed: Change rotation speed using the shift knob (ensure the switch is off).
- Bit mounting: Tighten the keyless chuck sleeve adequately.
- Rotation: Use the switch to reverse the rotational direction.
Maintenance and Inspection
- Tool inspection: Sharpen or replace dull tools to prevent motor malfunction.
- Mounting screws: Regularly inspect and tighten all mounting screws.
- Motor maintenance: Keep the motor winding free from damage, oil, or water.
- Cleaning: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth or soapy cloth. Do not use solvents like gasoline or paint thinner.
- Storage: Store in a place with a temperature below 40°C, out of reach of children.
Safety
Always wear eye and ear protection (especially for impact drilling). Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped. Do not short-circuit the battery or expose it to fire.

Common problems
Battery may be empty (charge it) or the tool may be overloaded (release switch, remove cause of overload, then resume).
Check for foreign objects in the charger's battery connector. If none, the battery or charger may be malfunctioning; contact an authorized service center.
Stop using the tool and let the battery cool down before resuming.
Before use
- Ensure the work area is clean and well-lit.
- Check that the battery is fully charged.
- Verify the switch is in the OFF position before inserting the battery.
- Ensure the bit is correctly mounted and the chuck is tightened.
- Check that the rotation direction is set correctly.
