Quick guide from the manual

The HiKOKI CR 18DBL is a cordless reciprocating saw designed for cutting metal, wood, and synthetic resins. This guide provides essential information for safe and efficient operation. Always ensure the battery is removed before performing maintenance or changing blades.

Safety information

  • Always hold the tool by insulated gripping surfaces when cutting near hidden wiring.
  • Wear eye protection and appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Do not operate the tool in explosive atmospheres.
  • Keep children and bystanders away during operation.
  • If the tool overheats, stop and allow it to cool.
  • Never leave the tool running unattended.

Mounting and dismounting the blade

To mount the blade, insert it into the blade holder until it clicks. Pull the back of the blade to ensure it is securely locked. To dismount, pivot the lever and point the blade downward; it should fall out. If it remains stuck, use the tip of another blade to hook and remove it.

Operation and speed settings

The tool features a mode selector switch to adjust the maximum stroke speed. Auto Mode automatically adjusts the speed based on the load. Do not use Auto Mode when cutting stainless steel. Always press the base firmly against the workpiece during operation.

Battery charging

Use only the specified HiKOKI chargers (UC18YFSL or UC18YSL3). The charger indicator lamp provides status updates: blinking red/blue indicates charging progress, while solid green (on UC18YSL3) indicates charging is complete. If the lamp flickers rapidly in purple or red, check for foreign objects in the battery terminal.

Maintenance and inspection

  • Regularly inspect the blade for wear; dull blades cause motor overload.
  • Check all mounting screws periodically and tighten if loose.
  • Keep the motor winding clean and free of oil or water.
  • Clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth or soapy water; avoid solvents.
  • Store in a dry place below 40°C, out of reach of children.

Battery charging does not begin

Ensure the battery is inserted firmly. Check for foreign matter in the battery terminal or charger connector.

This is normal if the trigger is only pulled slightly; pull the trigger more fully to engage the motor properly.
