Safety Information

WARNING: Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to follow them may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Keep work area clean and well-lit.

Charging the Battery

Before using the tool, charge the battery using the specified charger.

  • AC Power: Connect the charger to a standard AC receptacle. The pilot lamp will blink in red.
  • DC Power (In-car): When using the UC18YML2 charger in a car, secure the charger firmly using the supplied strap to prevent movement. Insert the cigarette lighter plug into the socket.
  • Charging Status: The pilot lamp indicates the charging status (e.g., blinking red for charging, solid red for charging complete, flickering red for malfunction).

Mounting and Operation

Refer to the following procedures for basic tool setup:

  • Battery: Remove and insert the battery as shown in Fig. 1.
  • Side Handle: Install or remove the side handle (Fig. 3).
  • Drill Bits: Insert or remove SDS-plus drilling tools (Fig. 4 and 5).
  • Rotation Direction: Select the rotation direction using the switch (Fig. 6).
  • Operating Mode: Select the operating mode (Fig. 7).
  • Drilling Depth: Adjust the drilling depth (Fig. 8).
  • Power/Save Mode: Select the mode using the shift knob (Fig. 10). Do not drill holes in wood in "SAVE" mode.

Maintenance and Inspection

CAUTION: Always turn off the switch and remove the battery before maintenance.

  • Tool Inspection: Sharpen or replace dull tools to maintain efficiency and prevent motor malfunction.
  • Mounting Screws: Regularly inspect and tighten all mounting screws.
  • Carbon Brushes: Inspect and replace carbon brushes (Fig. 13) when they reach the wear limit. Use only genuine HiKOKI carbon brushes (Code No. 999100).
  • Cleaning: Wipe the tool with a soft, dry cloth or a cloth moistened with soapy water. Do not use solvents that melt plastic.
  • Storage: Store in a place where the temperature is less than 40°C and out of reach of children.

Motor stops during operation

Battery may be empty (charge immediately) or the tool may be overloaded (release switch, remove cause of overload, then resume).

Battery will not charge

Check for foreign objects in the charger connector. If using a car charger, ensure the car battery voltage is sufficient (above 12V).

Pilot lamp flickers red

Indicates a malfunction in the battery or charger. Take the unit to an authorized service center.
