This manual covers the operation and maintenance of the HiKOKI DS 18DD and DV 18DD cordless driver drills. The DV 18DD model includes an additional impact drilling mode for masonry. Always ensure the work area is clear and well-lit before operation. Use only genuine HiKOKI batteries and chargers.
Battery removal and charging
- Removal: Hold the handle firmly and push the battery latches to release the battery.
- Charging: Connect the charger to a power source. Insert the battery firmly. The pilot lamp indicates charging status: continuous red means charging, blinking red means charging complete.
- Safety: If the pilot lamp blinks in specific patterns (e.g., 0.1s on/0.1s off), it indicates a malfunction. Allow the battery to cool if it overheats before attempting to recharge.
Operation and settings
- Bit installation: Turn the sleeve counterclockwise to open the keyless chuck, insert the bit, and turn clockwise to tighten.
- Rotation direction: Use the selector button to switch between clockwise (R) and counterclockwise (L) rotation.
- Speed selection: Use the shift knob to select LOW or HIGH speed. Always stop the motor before changing speed or mode.
- Torque adjustment: Adjust the clutch dial (1-20) to set the tightening torque. Do not set the dial between numbers.
- Mode selection (DV 18DD only): Use the mode-switching dial to select between screwdriver, drill, and impact drill modes.
Maintenance and safety
- Regularly inspect mounting screws and ensure they are tight.
- Keep battery terminals free of swarf and dust to prevent short circuits.
- Clean the tool exterior with a soft, dry cloth or soapy water; avoid solvents like gasoline or paint thinner.
- Store the tool in a cool, dry place (below 40°C) out of reach of children.

Common problems
Tool does not run
Check if the battery is fully charged and securely attached until a click is heard.
Tool suddenly stops
The tool may be overburdened or overheated. Release the switch, remove the cause of the overload, and allow the tool/battery to cool.
Bit falls out or cannot be attached
Ensure the bit diameter is within the 2-13 mm range of the keyless chuck. If the lock is worn, contact an authorized service center.
Battery will not charge
Ensure the battery is correctly inserted and the charger is plugged in. If the battery is too hot or cold, move it to a suitable temperature environment (0°C–50°C).
Before use
- Ensure the work area is clear of debris and clutter.
- Check that the battery is fully charged and correctly installed.
- Verify the rotation direction selector is fully pushed to the desired side.
- Ensure the correct speed (LOW/HIGH) is selected for the task.
- Check that the clutch dial is set to a specific number, not between settings.
