Preparation and Connection
Before connecting the scanner, ensure your computer is powered off. Connect the scanner to the appropriate port on your computer, then power on the computer.
- USB: Connect the scanner cable directly to an available USB port on your computer.
- Serial (RS232): Connect the scanner cable to the serial port and ensure the power supply is connected to the scanner cable.
- Keyboard Wedge: Connect the scanner cable between the keyboard and the computer's keyboard port.
- RS485: Connect the scanner to the designated RS485 port.
Configuration
The scanner can be configured by scanning specific barcodes provided in this manual. To apply settings, follow these steps:
- Scan the desired configuration barcode (e.g., "Product Default Settings").
- If required, scan numeric barcodes from the "Configuration Chart" (pages 8-9) to set specific values.
- Scan the "Save" barcode to finalize the configuration.
RS485 Interface: The default is set to port 5B. If your IBM POS terminal uses port 9B, you must scan the "IBM Port 9B HHBCR-1" or "HHBCR-2" barcode and restart the terminal.
Data Formatting
You can customize data output by scanning the "Enter Data Format" barcode, followed by specific numeric sequences for format type, terminal type, code ID, and length, ending with the "Save" barcode.

Common problems
Scanner not communicating via RS485
Ensure the correct port (5B or 9B) is configured by scanning the appropriate barcode and restarting the terminal.
Scanner needs to be reset to factory defaults
Scan the 'Product Default Settings' barcode found in the configuration section.
Before use
- Power off the computer before connecting the scanner.
- Identify the correct interface cable (USB, RS232, RS485, or Keyboard Wedge).
- Ensure the power supply is connected if your specific interface requires external power.
- Power on the computer only after the scanner is fully connected.
