Subwoofer enclosure types

The Stage 122D is designed to perform well in various enclosure types. Your choice should depend on available cargo space, amplifier power, and listening preferences.

  • Sealed Enclosures: Provide the flattest frequency response and widest bandwidth. They are more forgiving of construction errors but require more amplifier power.
  • Vented Enclosures: Offer greater efficiency and higher output in the 40Hz–60Hz range. They require precise volume and port dimensions. An infrasonic filter is recommended to prevent overdriving.
  • Infinite-Baffle Mounting: Possible, but mechanical power handling will be reduced by half.

Mounting the subwoofer

The subwoofer should be mounted from the outside of the enclosure. Use the included foam mounting gasket to ensure a leak-free seal between the subwoofer frame and the enclosure.

Connecting the amplifier

The subwoofer connectors are compatible with bare or tinned wires. Use a wire gauge between 14AWG and 8AWG. For wire runs longer than 6 feet (2 meters), use a heavier gauge wire.
