Quick guide from the manual
The Halcyon Gold Overdrive is a versatile drive pedal featuring proprietary Adaptive Circuitry. It is designed to respond to your playing dynamics and volume changes, offering a range of tones from classic Klon-style overdrive to a more neutral, balanced sound. Key features include an adjustable DRY control, a Voice switch for different mid-hump characteristics, and high-quality buffered bypass.
Connecting the pedal
To set up the pedal, ensure you have a compatible power supply and cables:
- Power: Connect a 9VDC, >200mA power supply with a 2.1mm centre-negative barrel connector.
- Instrument: Connect your guitar to the INSTR input.
- Amplifier: Connect your amplifier or modeller to the AMP output.
Controls
The pedal features several controls to shape your sound:

- ADAPT Switch: Enables Adaptive Circuitry. Position O provides no adaptive behaviour (classic Klon style). Position I offers less adaptive behaviour, maintaining some bass and treble roll-off. Position II provides full adaptive behaviour, where the mid-hump reduces as the pedal cleans up.
- VOICE Switch: Selects between KLN (classic resonant mid peak) and MOD (broader mid hump with softer, more compressed clipping).
- DRIVE: Increases the amount of overdrive. Higher settings make the adaptive effect more noticeable.
- LEVEL: Sets the output volume.
- TONE: Adjusts high-end frequencies. Turn counterclockwise to roll off high-end.
- DRY: Mixes your dry guitar signal with the overdrive tone. Turn clockwise to maintain clarity and definition.
Sample Settings
The manual suggests several starting points for your sound:
- Gold Standard: Mid-forward drive tone that transitions from focused overdrive to full-range clean.
- Clean Boost: Balances tight low end with natural high end; stacks well with other pedals.
- Into Clean Amp: Uses the MOD setting for a smooth overdrive response without needing to crank the amp.
- Stacked Drive: Uses the DRY control for definition when running into an already overdriven amp.
Specifications
Technical details for the pedal:
- Input Impedance: 1M Ohm
- Output Impedance: 1k Ohm
- Current Draw: 200mA
- Power Requirements: 9VDC 2.1mm centre-negative connector
Safety and Warranty
The unit is not user-serviceable; all repairs must be performed by qualified personnel. Keep the device away from water and heat sources. The product is covered by a 2-year manufacturer's warranty from the date of purchase for original purchasers.
Practical help
Common problems
Ensure you are using a 9VDC, center-negative power supply with at least 200mA current capacity.
The adaptive effect is gain-dependent. Increase the DRIVE control setting to make the adaptive behavior more prominent.
Adjust the TONE control to roll off high-end frequencies, or use ADAPT setting I to keep the low end tight.
Before use
- Verify power supply is 9VDC, center-negative, and >200mA.
- Connect guitar to the INSTR input.
- Connect amplifier to the AMP output.
- Start with all knobs at 12 o'clock to establish a baseline sound.
Specs in practice
- Input Impedance (1M Ohm)
- Standard high impedance for guitar pickups to ensure signal clarity.
- Current Draw (200mA)
- Requires a dedicated power supply; ensure your power brick can handle this load.
- Center-negative connector
- Standard polarity for guitar pedals; ensure your power cable matches this.
Images and diagrams
- ADAPT switch: O (Off), I (Less adaptive), II (Full adaptive).
- VOICE switch: KLN (Classic Klon mid hump), MOD (Broader mid hump, compressed).
Model compatibility
- Designed for use with electric guitars and amplifiers/modellers.
- Not user-serviceable; do not open the unit.
