Quick guide from the manual
The Wampler Catacombs is a programmable delay and reverb pedal. To get started, ensure you use a 9V DC Center Negative power supply (130mA). The pedal features 6 delay and 5 reverb algorithms. You can access secondary 'Alt' controls by holding the Bypass switch until the LED turns red. Presets can be saved by holding the preset switch for 1 second and selecting a destination.
Overview
The Catacombs combines 11 of Brian Wampler's favorite delay and reverb effects into one pedal. It features full MIDI control, presets, and an expression pedal input. The pedal can be routed in series or parallel and supports mono or stereo configurations.
Controls
The pedal has five main control knobs. Each knob has a secondary 'Alt' function indicated in blue text. To access these, hold the Bypass switch until the LED turns red. The main controls include Time (Delay length), Mod (Modulation depth), Feedback (Number of repeats), Delay (Output level), and Reverb (Output level).
Delay and Reverb Programs
The pedal includes 6 delay programs: ANLG (Analog Style), BBD (Bucket Brigade), FTE (Faux Tape Echo), SPC (Echo-Space), TAPE (Mechanical/Tape), and DIGI (Digital). There are 5 reverb programs: Shimmer, Plate, Spring, Room, and Hall. Use the program selector knob to choose your effect.
Routing and Connections
The Catacombs can be run in Mono or Stereo. The routing switch allows you to choose between Series (L) and Parallel (R) modes. In series mode, you can further select whether the delay outputs into the reverb or vice versa by holding the Bypass switch and adjusting the routing switch.
Presets
The pedal has 128 preset locations. Presets 1-8 are accessible via the front panel preset switch. To save a preset, hold the preset switch for 1 second, select the destination, and hold the switch again to save.
Configuration Menu
To access the configuration menu, hold the preset switch while applying power to the pedal. You can adjust settings like Bypass Mode (True/Buffered), Stereo Mode, EXT Mode (for expression pedal or external switch), number of front panel presets, MIDI Clock Sync, and MIDI Channel.
MIDI
The pedal offers complete control via MIDI CC or PC messages. Connect a controller to the MIDI In jack. You can use a 5-pin DIN to 3.5mm TRS adapter. The pedal supports MIDI Clock for tempo synchronization.
Expression Pedal
You can control any of the 10 rotary controls with an external expression pedal. To configure, hold the Bypass and Right footswitch for one second until the Tap Tempo LED turns red, set the heel position, repeat to set the toe position, and confirm.
Factory Reset
To perform a factory reset, ensure MIDI jacks are empty. Hold the Bypass, Preset, and Right footswitch down while powering up the pedal. The LEDs will blink to confirm success.
