Quick guide from the manual

Before operating the amplifier, ensure you have read all safety warnings. To begin using the amplifier, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the amplifier is turned off.
  2. Plug the power cord into a proper voltage supply.
  3. Connect your guitar to either the High or Low Gain input.
  4. Turn all knobs counterclockwise to their 0 position.
  5. Turn the amplifier on using the power switch on the rear panel.
  6. Turn your guitar volume down, then gradually increase it to a comfortable level.
  7. Use the Master Gain control to adjust the overall volume.
  8. Use the Pre Gain knob to adjust for any undesirable distortion.

Front Panel Controls

  • High Gain Input: Used for most electric guitars; 10 dB louder than the Low Gain input.
  • Low Gain Input: Designed for instruments with extremely high outputs to prevent distortion.
  • Pre Gain: Controls the input level; clockwise increases the level for a hotter signal.
  • Pre EQ Patch: 1/4 inch mono jacks for patching external effects before the EQ section.
  • EQ (Low, Mid, High): Active tone controls. Clockwise amplifies frequencies; counterclockwise attenuates them.
  • Shift: Adjusts the center frequency of the Mid EQ (150 Hz to 1.5 kHz).
  • Presence: Active tone control that boosts extreme high frequencies up to 15 dB.
  • Post EQ Patch: 1/4 inch mono jacks for patching external effects after the EQ section.
  • Master Reverb: Controls the amount of reverb. Can be defeated via footswitch.
  • Master Gain: Controls the overall volume level of the amplifier.

Rear Panel Connections

  • Power Switch: Turns the unit on and off.
  • Power Amp In: Mono 1/4 inch jack for direct input to the power amplifier.
  • Preamp Out / CD Input: Output from the preamp. Can be used as an effects loop with Power Amp In or as an input for CD/tape players.
  • Line Out: Balanced XLR output for connecting to a mixing board or snake.
  • Headphone Jack: Stereo output; plugging in headphones disengages the internal speaker.
  • Remote Switch: Connection for the optional footswitch (part #03022910) to control Reverb and Post EQ Patch.

Operation and Settings

For clean settings, ensure the Master Gain is set higher than the Pre Gain to avoid premature signal clipping. The amplifier features a Mid Shift control that interacts with the Mid EQ to tailor your tone. Use the provided setting examples in the manual as a starting point for different styles like Fiddle, Clean Lap Steel, or Steel guitar (E9th/C6th).

Practical help

Common problems

Undesirable distortion

Reduce the Pre Gain knob setting or check if external effects units are overdriving the signal.

Feedback during live performance

Use the balanced XLR Line Out to connect to a mixing board instead of using microphones.

No sound from speaker

Check if headphones are plugged into the Headphone Jack, as this automatically disengages the internal speaker.

Footswitch not working

Ensure the footswitch plug is inserted fully into the Remote Switch jack.

Before use

  • Verify the power source matches the voltage marking on the unit.
  • Ensure the power switch is in the Off position before connecting the power cord.
  • Set all front panel knobs to the 0 position.
  • Connect the guitar to the appropriate input (High or Low Gain).
  • Ensure the amplifier is properly grounded.

Specs in practice

80 Watts RMS
The rated power output of the amplifier into a 4 Ohm load.
Mid Shift (150 Hz - 1.5 kHz)
The frequency range over which the Mid EQ center frequency can be adjusted.
DDT Compression
A dynamic range compression system that helps prevent distortion during overload.

Model compatibility

  • Optional footswitch part number: #03022910.
  • CD Input requires a shielded stereo cable to function correctly.
  • The amplifier is designed for 4 Ohm speaker loads.
