Quick Guide from the Manual
This lens is a manual focus, full-frame prime lens. To ensure proper operation, especially if your camera fails to fire, ensure your camera is set to Manual (M) or Aperture Priority (A) mode and that the "release without lens" setting is enabled in your camera's menu. For Nikon users, specific steps are required to utilize the de-clicked aperture feature.
Parts Identification
The lens consists of the following components:
- Mount: The interface connecting the lens to the camera body.
- Aperture Ring: Used to adjust the aperture settings.
- Aperture Click Switch: Toggles between clicked and de-clicked (smooth) aperture adjustment.
- Focusing Scale: Indicates the current focus distance.
- Focusing Ring: Used for manual focusing.
- Focus Lock Ring: Prevents the focusing ring from turning easily.
- Built-in Lens Hood: Protects the front element.
- Contacts (Nikon Only): Electronic interface for Nikon cameras.
- Depth of Field Scale: Assists in determining the depth of field.
Installation
Attaching the Lens
- Ensure the camera is turned off.
- Remove the rear lens cap and the camera body cap.
- Align the index mark on the lens barrel with the index mark on the camera mount.
- Insert the lens into the mount and rotate it clockwise (counterclockwise for Nikon mount) until it clicks and locks into place. Do not insert at an angle.
- Remove the front lens cap when ready to shoot.
Detaching the Lens
- Attach the front lens cap.
- Hold down the lens release button on the camera body.
- Rotate the lens counterclockwise (clockwise for Nikon mount) until it stops and separate the lens from the body.
- Attach the rear lens cap.
Focusing and Exposure
Focusing: Use your camera's manual focus methods, such as Focus Confirmation or Focus Magnification. For the best results, set the lens to the maximum aperture (F1.4 or F2.8 depending on the model) to focus, then stop down to your desired shooting aperture.
Aperture De-click Switch: This feature allows for silent and smooth aperture adjustment, ideal for video. Turn the indicator line on the switch to the "Free" mark for de-clicked mode or to the "Click" mark for standard clicked mode.
Nikon De-click Procedure: To use the de-clicked function on Nikon cameras:
- Set the aperture ring to F22.
- Set the camera's exposure control dial to M (Manual) and set the aperture to F22.
- Enter video shooting mode.
- After recording begins, set the desired F-stop value manually on the lens.
- Once recording stops, repeat the steps to resume.
Focusing Lock: To prevent the focus ring from turning, turn the indicator line on the ring counterclockwise to the "Lock" mark. Turn it to the "Unlock" mark to resume focusing.
Maintenance and Cautions
- Cleaning: Use a lens blower or soft brush to remove dust. For stubborn spots, use one or two drops of lens cleaner on a microfiber cloth and wipe in a circular motion.
- Temperature: Avoid drastic temperature changes (e.g., moving from cold outdoors to warm indoors) to prevent condensation. Place the lens in a sealed bag until it warms to room temperature.
- Safety: Do not look directly at the sun through the lens. Attach/detach only when the camera is turned off. Protect from water, high humidity, and excessive heat.

Common problems
Ensure the camera is in Manual (M) or Aperture Priority (A) mode and that the 'release without lens' setting is enabled in the camera menu.
You must set the aperture ring to F22 and the camera exposure dial to M (Manual) with the aperture set to F22 before recording.
Avoid moving the lens directly from cold to warm environments. Place the lens in a sealed bag and let it warm up to room temperature gradually.
