Important Information

This guide explains how to use the Sony FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM OSS lens. Before using the lens, ensure you have read the separate "Precautions before using" document provided with your product. This lens is designed for Sony E-mount cameras and is compatible with 35mm format image sensors.

Safety Precautions

  • Sunlight Warning: Do not point the lens directly at the sun or strong light sources. Concentrated light can cause internal damage, smoke, or fire.
  • Weather Resistance: While designed with dust and splash resistance, the lens is not waterproof. Keep it dry when using in rain.
  • Handling: When carrying the camera with the lens attached, hold both the camera and the lens firmly.
  • Video Recording: Lens operation sounds may be recorded during video shooting. Be careful when operating rings and levers.

Identifying the Parts

Key components include the focus ring, aperture ring, focus hold button, focus-range limiter, SteadyShot switch, and IRIS LOCK switch. Refer to the diagram in the manual for the exact location of these controls.

Attaching and Detaching the Lens

Attaching the lens to the camera
Attaching the lens to the camera
  1. Attaching: Remove the rear lens cap and camera body cap. Align the white index on the lens barrel with the white index on the camera mount. Insert the lens and rotate clockwise until it locks.
  2. Detaching: Attach the front lens cap. Hold down the lens release button on the camera, rotate the lens counterclockwise until it stops, and remove it.

Focusing

You can switch between AF (Autofocus) and MF (Manual Focus) using the focus mode switch on the lens. For AF, both the camera and lens must be set to AF. In MF, rotate the focus ring to adjust focus.

  • Full-time DMF: When the full-time direct manual focus switch is ON, the focus mode automatically switches to MF when the focus ring is rotated, regardless of the AF setting.
  • Full MF Mode: Set the focus ring to the mount side to enable Full MF mode, allowing manual focus regardless of camera settings.

Using SteadyShot

The SteadyShot switch compensates for camera shake. Set to ON to enable stabilization. It is recommended to use a tripod when shooting with SteadyShot OFF.

Focus Range Limiter

The focus-range limiter reduces AF time by restricting the focus range:

  • FULL: Full range from minimum distance to infinity.
  • - 0.5m: Focus range from 0.5m to infinity.
  • 0.7m-0.26m: Focus range from 0.7m to 0.26m.

Adjusting the Aperture

The aperture ring allows manual control of the f-stop. Aligning the ring to 'A' sets the camera to auto iris mode. You can lock the aperture ring at 'A' or within the f/2.8 to f/22 range using the IRIS LOCK switch. For movie recording, set the aperture click switch to OFF to reduce operation noise.

Macro Photography

The magnification scale is displayed alongside the distance scale. As magnification increases, the camera becomes more vulnerable to shaking; use a tripod for stability. When using an external exposure meter or manual flash, refer to the exposure compensation table in the manual to adjust exposure values.
