Quick guide from the manual

The Sealey DH01.V3 is a hydraulic drum truck designed for lifting and maneuvering 205L drums. It features a hydraulic ram for clamping and lifting, and is suitable for use on firm, level concrete surfaces. Maximum capacity is 250kg.

Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble the unit:

Assembly of recoil spring and locator ring

  • Hydraulic Unit: Place the hydraulic unit on the wheel base and attach using the supplied bolts.
  • Handle: Insert the handle into the pump seat, align the holes, and secure with the supplied nut.
  • Spring and Rings: Attach the recoil spring and upper locator ring to the plate. Insert the discharge lever through the recoil spring and slide the lower locator ring over the lever from below.
  • Final Adjustment: Ensure the lower locator ring sits just under the plate. Fit the slotted end of the lever over the hydraulic release valve. Ensure there is a sufficient gap between the lower locator ring and the plate to prevent the lever from sliding off the valve while allowing full rotation.
  • Securing: Turn the top locator ring anti-clockwise to put pressure on the return spring, then tighten the screw to hold it in place.

Operation

Clamping the drum
Clamping the drum

Lifting a Drum

  1. Turn the discharge lever fully clockwise to lower the hydraulic ram.
  2. Move the truck to bring the retaining bracket and plate into contact with the drum.
  3. Depress the castor brake pedal to secure the unit.
  4. Repeatedly depress the pump handle to raise the lifting frame until the drum is between the clamp tooth and the retaining plate.
  5. Ensure the retaining plate is below the top rim of the drum. Pull the clamp tooth operating lever towards you to secure the drum.
  6. Continue pumping until the drum is off the ground.

Transportation

Ensure the drum is in the lowest possible position before moving. Pull or push the pump handle to move the truck and turn the handle to change direction.

Releasing a Drum

Slowly turn the discharge lever anti-clockwise to lower the drum until it rests firmly on the ground. Push the clamp tooth operating lever away from you to release the clamp.

Maintenance

Lubrication and bleed points
Lubrication and bleed points
  • Regularly check the chassis, front wheels, and rear castor for rigidity and security.
  • Inspect the clamp tooth for wear and replace if necessary.
  • Check connecting components like retaining pins, nuts, and washers for wear or lack of lubrication.
  • If performance degrades, check the lubrication point or bleed the system (see figure 14).

Practical help

Common problems

Hydraulic ram fails to lower

Undo the lower locator ring, slide it down slightly, tighten the nut, and retry.

Performance degradation

Check oil levels at the lubrication point or bleed the hydraulic system.

Before use

  • Ensure the surface is firm, level, and concrete (do not use on tarmacadam).
  • Check that the path to the destination is clear.
  • Verify the drum weight does not exceed 250kg.
  • Inspect the truck for damaged parts before use.

Specs in practice

Maximum Capacity
250kg - Do not exceed this weight to avoid damage or injury.
