This document provides installation and usage instructions for the Sony XS-692ES 2-Way Component Speaker System. Before installation, ensure you have the necessary tools and verify the mounting depth of your vehicle's door or rear tray.
Precautions
- Medical Devices: Keep magnets away from pacemakers, programmable shunt valves, or other medical devices.
- Handling: Do not touch speaker diaphragms or cones with hands or tools. Do not insert fingers into the frame holes.
- Amplifier Caution: If using a BTL (balanced transformerless) amplifier, connect speaker cords directly to the amplifier outputs. Do not use existing common-ground wiring, as this may damage the amplifier.
- Power Limits: Do not continuously operate the speakers beyond their peak power handling capacity.
Mounting
Before Mounting:
- Ensure a minimum mounting depth of 71 mm (2 7/8 in).
- Check that the speaker does not obstruct car components like window mechanisms, door handles, armrests, or seat belts.
- If mounting in a door, you may need to modify the inner panel.
Installation Steps:
- Remove the inside door panel or prepare the rear tray area.
- Decide the mounting method based on your vehicle type.
- Mark the 4 bolt holes and drill them with a 3.2 mm (1/8 in) diameter bit.
- Secure the speaker using the provided hardware.
Wiring Connections
Follow the standard connection diagrams provided in the manual. Ensure the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals are connected correctly to your car audio system or power amplifier. When releasing cables, press the catch firmly and release carefully to avoid damaging the terminals.

Tweeter Sound Adjustment
You can adjust the tweeter sound pressure level on the passive crossover network:

- 0 dB: Standard setting.
- +3 dB: Increased sound pressure setting.
Use the switch on the crossover unit to select your preferred level.

Practical help
Common problems
If using a BTL amplifier, ensure speaker cords are connected directly to the amplifier, not through existing common-ground wiring.
Ensure no foreign objects are in the speaker frame and that diaphragms/cones have not been touched or damaged during installation.
Keep the speaker system away from persons using pacemakers or other medical devices due to the magnets.
Before use
- Measure mounting depth (minimum 71 mm required).
- Check for obstructions like window mechanisms, door handles, or seat belts.
- Verify amplifier compatibility (BTL system caution).
- Ensure you have the correct drill bit size (3.2 mm) for mounting holes.
Specs in practice
- Rated Power (90 W)
- The continuous power handling capacity of the speaker.
- Peak Power (330 W)
- The maximum short-term power the speaker can handle.
- Impedance (4 Ohm)
- The electrical resistance; must match your amplifier's requirements.
- Frequency Range (35 - 40,000 Hz)
- The range of sound frequencies the speaker can reproduce.
Images and diagrams
- Wiring diagrams illustrate basic and standard connections for car audio systems.
- Mounting diagrams show the process for door panel and rear tray installation.
- Tweeter adjustment diagram shows the switch location on the crossover network.
Model compatibility
- Requires 71 mm mounting depth.
- Tweeter sound pressure is adjustable to 0 dB or +3 dB.
