The Taramps DS 2000X4 is a 4-channel amplifier designed for automotive audio systems. Installation must be performed by a qualified professional. Key requirements include using 4 AWG wire for power, 11 AWG for output, and a 100A fuse or circuit breaker installed as close to the battery as possible. Always disconnect the battery negative terminal before starting any installation.

Safety requirements

• Installation: Must be done by a qualified professional.
• Power: Use 12V batteries. Check voltage before installing.
• Cooling: Install in a firm place with at least 1 inch of space around the heatsink. Do not obstruct ventilation.
• Wiring: Use rubber or plastic grommets when running wires through the car body to avoid sharp edges.
• Protection: Install a fuse or circuit breaker near the battery.
• Handling: The heatsink becomes hot during use; avoid touching it.
• Hearing: Avoid continuous exposure to sound pressure levels over 85dB.

Functions & inputs

The amplifier features RCA inputs suitable for both low-level (RCA output from player) and high-level (speaker output from player) signals.

• RCA Input: If using low-level signals, the remote wire must be used for activation.
• High-Level Input: If using speaker outputs, the remote wire is not needed. Set gain to the 6V position to avoid signal saturation.
• Special Vehicles: For cars with factory multimedia (e.g., Fiat, Jeep, Renault) that have CAN communication, a 45R to 56R / 2W resistor must be applied between the + and - of each multimedia speaker output to prevent audio blocking.

Functions

• Gain: Sets input sensitivity for optimal adjustment to the Head Unit output.
• Crossover: Sets the operating mode:
  • FULL: Amplifies the whole audio range (8Hz to 20KHz).
  • HPF (High Pass): Amplifies signals above 90Hz (used for mid-bass, mid-range, or tweeters).
  • LPF (Low Pass): Amplifies signals below 90Hz (used for sub-woofers).

Output & power supply

Speaker Connections: Follow polarity and minimum impedance. Minimum impedance is 2 ohms per channel for stereo connections and 4 ohms for bridged connections.

Power Supply: Connect the positive terminal to the battery with a 21mm² (4 AWG) wire. Connect the negative terminal to the battery with the same gauge wire. Connect the remote terminal to the Head Unit remote output using a 0.75mm² wire.

Troubleshooting & LED indicators

The amplifier features an LED indicator system:

• ON: Amplifier is turned on.
• PROT: Amplifier is in protection mode (short-circuit or low impedance).
• LED flashes 1x: Temperature above 85°C.
• LED flashes 2x: Battery voltage under 9V.
• LED flashes 3x: Battery voltage over 17V.
• LED flashes 10x: Protection detected at outputs or GND terminal.

The amplifier includes an auto-restart feature. If it restarts 5 times without success, protection is permanently activated until the issue is resolved.
