Quick guide from the manual
The Thule Double Step 12V is an electrically operated step designed for caravans and motorhomes. This guide covers the installation, electrical connection, and maintenance of the 380, 440, and 500 ALU models. Important: Always ensure the step is fully retracted before driving the vehicle. If the step fails to retract, check the electrical connections, the fuse, and the relay (if installed).
Installation
The step must be mounted on a flat, stable surface on the vehicle chassis. Ensure the mounting points are secure and capable of supporting the weight. The electrical installation requires a 12V DC power supply. A 20A fuse must be installed in the positive wire to protect the motor from overload.
Wiring Configurations
The manual details three primary wiring setups:

- Standard: Basic connection to the 12V battery and the operating switch.
- With Warning Lamp/Buzzer: Includes a warning device to alert the driver if the step is extended.
- With Automatic Retraction: Utilizes a relay to automatically retract the step when the vehicle engine is started.
Ensure all wiring is routed safely and protected from moisture and road debris.
Operation and Maintenance
Operate the step using the provided switch. Keep the step clean and free of dirt, mud, or ice to ensure smooth operation. Periodically inspect the pivot points and moving parts; lubricate them if necessary to prevent seizing. Do not use the step if it is damaged or if the motor sounds strained.
