This technical manual provides essential data for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the Viessmann Vitocal IND-D ducted ductless system. It covers models 09XAK, 12XAK, 18XAK, 24XAK, 36XAK, 48XAK, and 58XAK. Key information includes installation clearances, wiring requirements, external static pressure settings, and detailed fan performance curves.
System Overview
The Vitocal IND-D is a ducted, direct-expansion fan coil system designed for heat pump applications. It features microprocessor-based controls, built-in condensate lift pumps, and flexible installation options. The system is designed for quiet operation and efficient multi-room heating or cooling.
Installation and Clearances
Proper installation is critical for system performance. Units must be level in all planes. Ensure adequate clearance for airflow and maintenance as specified in the manual. If installing above a hard lid ceiling, a ceiling access panel must be utilized to allow for blower component or unit removal. Minimum access panel dimensions are the length and width of the unit, or specific dimensions based on the unit size plus 18 inches on the connection end and 2 inches on the opposite end.

Wiring and Connections
All wiring must comply with NEC or CEC and local codes. Power is supplied to the outdoor unit, which then powers the indoor unit. For sizes 09-24, use 14/3 power/communication wiring. For sizes 36-58, use 14/2 stranded wire for power and a separate shielded 16GA stranded copper conductor for communication. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent overheating.

Control System
The system includes a wireless remote controller and a wired remote controller (KSACN0501AAA). The wired controller allows for system operation, timer functions, and configuration of external static pressure. A 24V interface (KSAIC0401230) is available for third-party thermostat control (compatible with all sizes except 58, unless equipped with the updated control board).
External Static Pressure Configuration
The wired controller allows for manual selection of fan curves (SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4) or an Automatic Airflow (AF) adjustment function. To configure: ensure the unit is in FAN ONLY mode, turn the unit OFF, press and hold COPY for 4 seconds, and use the "+" or "-" buttons to select SP or AF. If using AF, the system will run the fan for 3-6 minutes to automatically regulate airflow.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance includes cleaning filters and checking the condensate lift pump. The draw-thru design of the outdoor section allows for easy cleaning of the coil from the inside using a pressure hose and detergent. The system includes self-diagnostics to assist in troubleshooting.
Specifications
The manual contains detailed specifications for electrical requirements, piping sizes, indoor coil data, airflow (CFM), and sound pressure levels for all models. Refer to the specific tables in the manual for performance data based on the matched outdoor unit.

Common problems
If installed in a high EMF area, use 14/2 stranded shielded wire to replace L2 and (S) between outdoor and indoor units, landing the shield on the ground in the outdoor unit only.
Run the unit for 2 hours in FAN ONLY mode to dry the coil before performing test runs or airflow adjustments.
Ensure all closing dampers are open and the air filter is properly attached to the air return side.
Before use
- Ensure the unit is level in all planes.
- Verify power supply wiring and duct installation are complete.
- Check that all closing dampers are open.
- Ensure the air filter is properly attached.
- Confirm the condensate lift pump is installed and connected.
Specs in practice
- Static Pressure
- The resistance the fan must overcome; adjustable via SP settings.
Images and diagrams
- Wiring Diagrams: Detailed schematics for indoor unit mainboards, sensors, and power connections.
- Installation Clearances: Visual guide for required space around the unit for maintenance and airflow.
- Fan Performance Curves: Graphs showing airflow vs. static pressure for different fan settings.
Model compatibility
- 24V Interface (KSAIC0401230): Compatible with all sizes except 58 (unless serial number V191410001 or later).
- Outdoor Units: Must be matched with specific Viessmann outdoor units; see compatibility table in the manual.
