Quick guide from the manual
The Chord OD-50 is an overdrive/distortion effect pedal designed for electric guitars. This document provides essential information on power supply, control functions, and basic operation to help you achieve the desired rock-style sound.
Device overview and connections
The pedal features the following controls and connection points:

- 1. 9V DC Power Input: Optional input for an external power adapter.
- 2. Effect Indicator: LED showing the current on/off status.
- 3. Gain: Adjusts the intensity of the drive/distortion effect.
- 4. Output: 6.3mm jack for connecting to your amplifier.
- 5. Tone: Adjusts the tonal character of the effect.
- 6. Level: Adjusts the overall output volume of the effect.
- 7. Input: 6.3mm jack for connecting your guitar.
- 8. Footswitch: Toggles the effect on and off.
Power supply and battery installation
The pedal is supplied with a 9V battery. To install or replace it:
- Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the pedal.
- Carefully squeeze the clip on the plastic cover and lever it outwards.
- Connect the battery to the internal clip and secure the cover back into place.
Note: To preserve battery life, always unplug the guitar input jack when the pedal is not in use. If storing the pedal for long periods, remove the battery. For external power, use a 9V DC adapter with centre-negative polarity and a rating of 100mA or higher.
Operation and sound adjustment
The OD-50 emulates an over-driven amplifier, providing a hard-edged, compressed sound. To shape your tone:
- For more distortion: Increase the Gain control.
- To balance volume: If increasing Gain makes the signal too loud, back off the Level control.
- To adjust tone: Use the Tone control to soften an edgy sound or to help your guitar cut through the mix during solos.

Practical help
Common problems
Ensure the guitar input jack is unplugged when the pedal is not in use, as this keeps the circuit active.
Adjust the Level control downwards to counteract the volume boost caused by higher gain settings.
Before use
- Ensure a 9V battery is correctly connected to the internal clip.
- Check that the guitar is connected to the Input jack (7).
- Check that the amplifier is connected to the Output jack (4).
- If using an external power supply, verify it is 9V DC, centre-negative, and at least 100mA.
Images and diagrams
- The diagram illustrates the top-down view of the pedal, highlighting the three main knobs (Gain, Tone, Level) and the footswitch.
- Arrows indicate the signal flow from the guitar input (right side) to the amplifier output (left side).
Model compatibility
- Designed for use with electric guitars.
- Compatible with standard 9V DC power adapters (centre-negative).
