Important Information for Release 14SU5

This document provides release notes for Cisco Unified Communications Manager and the IM and Presence Service Release 14SU5. These notes cover new features, restrictions, and caveats. Please note that these release notes are updated for every maintenance release but not for patches or hot fixes.

Supported Software Versions

The following software versions apply to this release:

  • Unified Communications Manager Release: 14.0.1.15900-24
  • IM and Presence Service Release: 14.0.15900-3

Version Compatibility

Compatibility depends on the deployment type of the IM and Presence Service:

  • Standard Deployment: The IM and Presence Service and the telephony deployment are in the same cluster. They must run the same release. A release mismatch is not supported.
  • Centralized Deployment: The IM and Presence Service and the telephony deployment are in different clusters. A release mismatch is supported. Note that the central cluster includes a standalone Unified CM publisher node for database and user provisioning, which must run the same release as the IM and Presence Service. Centralized deployment is supported from Release 11.5(1)SU4 onwards.

Important Upgrade Notes

Before upgrading, please be aware of the following critical changes:

  • New 2021 Signing Key: Release 14SU1 and later are signed with a new 2021 signing key. If upgrading from versions prior to Release 14, you may need to install the ciscocm.enable-sha512sum-2021-signing-key-v1.0.cop.sgn COP file first. Ensure all phone firmware files use the new signing key (files with k4.cop.sha512 in the name). Installing files signed with the previous key will result in an installation error.
  • SIP Secure Phone Registration: From 14SU2 onwards, memory usage increases for SIP secure phone registrations, though this generally does not impact server capacity.
  • Release Numbering: Cisco has adopted a single number release plan. There will be no dot releases (e.g., dot five). Service updates will be published on top of the main major release 14.

Deprecations

  • 32-Bit Windows Plugin: Cisco TAPI Service Provider (TSP) 32-bit Windows plugin is no longer supported. Migration to the 64-bit version is recommended.
  • Mobile Voice Access: Mobile Voice Access via H.323 and SIP VXML Gateways is no longer supported. Configure native Mobile Voice Access, supported from version 12.5 and later.

New Gateway and ATA Support

New releases have introduced support for the following Cisco gateways:

  • Cisco VG400 Analog Voice Gateway
  • Cisco VG410 Analog Voice Gateway (via Gateway Configuration window)
  • Cisco VG420 Analog Voice Gateway
  • Cisco VG450 Analog Voice Gateway
  • Cisco 4461 Integrated Services Router

Additionally, support for Cisco Analog Telephone Adapters (ATA 190 and ATA 191) is available for 14(x) releases.

Practical help

Common problems

Installation error: 'The selected file is not valid.'

Ensure you are using firmware files with 'k4.cop.sha512' in the name, as they are signed with the new 2021 signing key.

Release mismatch error in Standard Deployment

Standard deployments require both the Unified Communications Manager and the IM and Presence Service to run the exact same release.

Before use

  • Verify your current software version matches the supported release (14.0.1.15900-24 for CUCM).
  • Determine if your deployment is Standard or Centralized to check compatibility.
  • If upgrading from a version prior to Release 14, install the 2021 signing key COP file.
  • Ensure all firmware files are signed with the new 2021 key.
  • Check the Bug Search Tool for known caveats before proceeding with major changes.
