Quick guide from the manual
This document provides essential installation and safety information for Danfoss DML and DCL filter driers. The primary focus is on safe soldering techniques to prevent toxic fume emission and ensuring the system operates within specified pressure limits.
Safety and soldering precautions
Soldering must be performed only in well-ventilated areas. Improper heating of the filter drier paint can release toxic fumes, which may cause skin and eye irritation or internal organ damage.

- Apply heat only to the connection point.
- Direct the flame away from the filter drier body.
- For pure copper connectors, always wrap the connector with a wet cloth during soldering.
Maximum working pressure
The maximum working pressure (PB/MWP) must not be lower than the pressure specified in section 8.2 of ANSI/ASHRAE 15 for the refrigerant used in the system. Pressure ratings vary by connection size:
- 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" connections: 610 psig / 42 bar.
- 3/4", 7/8" connections: 507 psig / 35 bar.
- 1 1/8" connections: 435 psig / 30 bar.
- All Flare/ORS sizes: 610 psig / 42 bar.
System marking
After the charging process is complete, the system must be clearly marked to indicate the type of refrigerant and oil used.

Common problems
Ensure the area is well-ventilated, direct the flame away from the filter body, and apply heat only to the connection.
Use a wet cloth to wrap pure copper connectors during the soldering process to prevent excessive heat transfer.
Before use
- Verify the system refrigerant type matches the DML or DCL filter drier specifications.
- Ensure the maximum working pressure of the filter meets ANSI/ASHRAE 15 requirements for your specific refrigerant.
- Confirm the soldering area is well-ventilated.
- Prepare a wet cloth for wrapping pure copper connectors.
Images and diagrams
- The manual provides diagrams illustrating the correct soldering technique for pure copper and copper-plated steel connectors, emphasizing the use of a wet wrap.
Model compatibility
- DML series is for HFC/HCFC refrigerants.
- DCL series is for CFC/HCFC refrigerants.
