This document provides essential installation and connection instructions for the Danfoss EKA 163A and EKA 164A universal displays. It is critical to verify the specific controller model you are connecting to, as wiring requirements and maximum cable lengths vary significantly between models.
Product Overview
The EKA 163A is a universal display (code 084B8562), and the EKA 164A is a universal setting display (code 084B8563). Both units are designed for panel mounting and require specific environmental conditions to function correctly.
Mounting and Dimensions
The displays are designed for panel mounting. Ensure the cutout dimensions are 71 mm by 29 mm. The units are rated IP65.

Environmental Requirements
- EKA 163A: Operating temperature range is 0 to +55°C.
- EKA 164A: Operating temperature range is -20 to +55°C.
- Condition: Both units must be used in non-condensing environments.
Wiring and Connectivity
Proper wiring is essential for data communication. Refer to the specific wiring diagrams for your controller type:

- EKC 4xx / EKC 5xx / AK..: Maximum cable length is 15 meters.
- EKC 202D / 204A1 / AK-CC 210 / 260: Maximum cable length is 1000 meters.
- AK-CC 450 / 550: Maximum cable length is 1000 meters.
- EKD 316: Maximum cable length is 1000 meters.
For detailed data communication protocols, please refer to the literature RC8AC. Ensure that the address parameter o03 is set to a value greater than 0 for proper communication.
Disposal

Common problems
Verify that the address parameter 'o03' is set to a value greater than 0. Check that the wiring matches the specific controller type diagram.
Ensure the cable length does not exceed the specified limit (15m for EKC 4xx/5xx, 1000m for others). Check for proper termination if required.
Before use
- Verify the model (EKA 163A or 164A) matches your application requirements.
- Prepare a panel cutout of 71 x 29 mm.
- Confirm the ambient temperature is within the allowed range (0 to +55°C for 163A, -20 to +55°C for 164A).
- Check the maximum allowed cable length for your specific controller connection.
- Ensure the environment is non-condensing.
Specs in practice
- EKA 163A Temp
- Operating range 0 to +55°C.
- EKA 164A Temp
- Operating range -20 to +55°C.
- Max Cable Length
- 15m for EKC 4xx/5xx; 1000m for other supported controllers.
Images and diagrams
- The diagrams illustrate the wiring pinouts for connecting the display to various Danfoss controllers (EKC, AK-CC, EKD).
- The diagrams indicate where to connect the communication wires (A, B, 12V) and where termination is required.
