Quick guide from the manual

This guide provides essential information for installing and commissioning the Danfoss iC2-Micro frequency converter. Always ensure the drive is installed by qualified personnel. Before performing any service, ensure the DC-link capacitors are fully discharged (wait 4 minutes for MA01c-MA03a, 15 minutes for MA04a-MA05a).

Safety instructions

Warning: High voltage is present when connected to AC mains, DC supply, or load sharing. The motor may start unexpectedly from control panel, I/O inputs, or fieldbus. Ensure the ground conductor size complies with local safety regulations for high touch current equipment (exceeds 3.5 mA).

Installation

Mount the drive with adequate clearance for cooling. All enclosure sizes require 100 mm (3.9 in) clearance above and below. For MA01c (natural cooling), sides require 0 mm at 40 °C and 10 mm at 50 °C. For other sizes, sides require 0 mm.

  • Grounding: Mount ground wires to the PE terminal.
  • Mains/Motor: Connect motor to terminals U, V, and W. Connect mains supply to L1/L, L2, and L3/N (3-phase) or L1/L and L3/N (single-phase).
  • Load Sharing/Brake: Use terminals -UDC and +UDC/+BR for load sharing, and -BR and +UDC/+BR for brake.

Control Terminals

Control cable terminals are located underneath the terminal cover. The drive features an RJ45 port for Modbus 485 communication. If the drive is at the end of the fieldbus, set the RS485 termination switch to ON. Do not operate this switch while the drive is powered.

Programming and Control Panel

The control panel allows for status monitoring and parameter editing. Use the Home/Menu button to toggle between displays. Use Up/Down to navigate and OK to confirm. The potentiometer changes the reference value when selected.

Automatic Motor Adaptation (AMA)

AMA builds a mathematical model of the motor to optimize performance. For best results, run on a cold motor.

  1. Set motor data according to the nameplate.
  2. If needed, set motor cable length in parameter P4.2.1.4.
  3. Set parameter P4.2.1.3 to [1] Enable Complete AMA or [2] Enable Reduced AMA.
  4. Press the Start button.
  5. The display will indicate when the test is completed.

Troubleshooting

The drive indicates faults and warnings via the control panel. Common issues include:

  • 10 Motor ETR Overld: Motor is too hot due to >100% load for too long.
  • 13 Overcurrent: Inverter peak current limit exceeded. Check power cable connections.
  • 4 Mains Ph. Loss: Missing phase on supply side. Check supply voltage.
  • 50 AMA calibration failed: Calibration error occurred.

Technical Specifications

The drive supports various mains supplies (1x200-240 V, 3x200-240 V, 3x380-480 V). Refer to the tables in the manual for specific output currents, maximum cable sizes, and fuse requirements based on the enclosure size (MA01a-MA05a, MA01c-MA02c).

Practical help

Common problems

Motor ETR Overld (10)

Motor is too hot due to >100% load for too long. Reduce load.

Overcurrent (13)

Inverter peak current limit exceeded. Check if power cables are mistakenly connected to motor terminals.

Mains Ph. Loss (4)

Missing phase on the supply side or voltage imbalance is too high. Check supply voltage.

AMA calibration failed (50)

A calibration error has occurred. Ensure motor data is correct.

Before use

  • Verify supply voltage matches the drive rating.
  • Ensure ground wires are connected to the PE terminal.
  • Check motor cable length against EMC limits (e.g., 5m or 15m depending on filter).
  • Wait for capacitor discharge (4-15 minutes) before performing service.
  • Ensure proper mounting clearance (100mm above/below).

Specs in practice

Continuous Current
Maximum current the drive can output during normal operation.
Intermittent Current
Maximum current the drive can output for 1 minute.
Enclosure Size
Physical size category (e.g., MA01a, MA05a) determining dimensions and mounting.

Images and diagrams

  • Control Terminals: Shows wiring for PNP configuration and terminal layout.
  • Control Panel: Illustrates button functions (Home/Menu, Start, Stop/Reset) and status indicators.
  • RJ45 Port: Shows location of the port and RS485 termination switch.

Model compatibility

  • RJ45 port supports up to 3 m (9.8 ft) of shielded CAT5e cable.
  • Do not use RJ45 port to directly connect the drive to a PC.
  • Some motors may require [2] Enable Reduced AMA if they cannot run the complete test.
