Re-imaging Guide for Dell Latitude 7650

This guide is intended for computer administrators performing a re-image of the Dell Latitude 7650. It is applicable only to computers shipped with the Windows 11 operating system. Always back up your data before attempting a re-image, as this process removes all software. For optimal performance, drivers must be installed in a specific sequence.

Installation overview

Re-imaging is the process of removing all software and reinstalling it, which is required if the system is corrupted or infected. Dell recommends downloading all drivers directly from the Dell Drivers & Downloads website using your Service Tag to ensure compatibility and system stability.

Order of reinstallation

To achieve optimal performance, install drivers and applications in the following sequence:

1. BIOS: Enables the operating system to load and initial setup.
2. Windows operating system: The base for all software.
3. Intel chipset driver: Includes Chipset Device Software, Management Engine, Serial I/O, HID Event Filter, Thunderbolt Controller, Dynamic Tuning, Innovation Platform Framework, AI Boost, Platform Monitoring, Integrated Sensor Solution, and Manageability and Security Status.
4. Networking and communication drivers: WLAN and Bluetooth adapters.
5. Latest updates: Use Dell Command Updates (DCU) for commercial computers or SupportAssist for consumer computers.
6. Critical Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) updates.
7. Camera driver: Intel 2D Imaging, MCU, or Visual Sensing Controller.
8. Camera AI Effect Opt-in driver: If the camera AI feature is enabled.
9. Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST): Enables data storage virtualization.
10. Graphics driver: Enhances video performance and power management.
11. Audio driver: Enhances the audio controller.
12. Security drivers: Dell ControlVault3 Plus driver and firmware.
13. Dell applications: Dell Command Update and Dell Optimizer.

Updating or resetting the BIOS

It is recommended to update the BIOS when an update is available or after replacing the system board.

• Go to www.dell.com/support and enter your Service Tag.
• Navigate to Drivers & downloads and select BIOS in the category list.
• Download and run the update file.

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security: To configure TPM, restart the computer and press F2 to enter the BIOS setup. Navigate to Security to enable or disable the TPM state, activate TPM 2.0 security, or clear stored information.

Reinstalling drivers and applications

If you need to reinstall specific drivers:

• Visit www.dell.com/support.
• Enter your Service Tag or search for your model.
• Click Drivers & downloads.
• Select the appropriate category (e.g., Chipset, Video, Network, Audio, Security, Application) to find the specific driver.
• Download and run the installer.
