Quick guide from the manual
The Air-Stirrup ankle brace is designed to provide support and stabilize the ankle following acute injuries such as sprains or chronic ankle instability. Proper application is essential for the device to function correctly. This device is intended for use by a licensed medical professional, the patient, or a caregiver.
Application
- Adjust heelpad width: Open the brace and lift the bottom of the aircells until the heel straps are fully exposed. Peel up the heel straps and adjust the heelpad width for a snug fit. Press the heel straps and aircells back into place.
- Apply brace: Place the round edge of the heelpad under the heel. Align the brace sides with the ankle. Secure the straps from bottom to top, starting with the lower strap for proper alignment. For maximum comfort and support, wear an absorbent sock and a lace-up athletic or sport shoe.
- Adjust brace: Squeeze the brace sides together with one hand. Tighten the straps from bottom to top with the other hand until the support is comfortable.
Ankle brace fit adjustment
The aircells are pre-inflated and typically do not require adjustment. If you experience pinching or uneven pressure, reposition the brace or readjust the heelpad and straps. If the condition persists, adjust the aircell volume:
- Unfold the valve on top of the aircell.
- Insert the inflation tube into the valve approximately 1.5 inches.
- Remove a small amount of air by gently squeezing the aircell, or add a small amount of air by blowing into the tube.
- Squeeze the valve flat just below the tube and slowly remove the tube.
- Fold the valve back down.
High Altitude Note: At high altitudes, aircells expand beyond their optimal level. You may need to remove air from the aircells. When flying, re-adjust straps to a comfortable pressure.
Cleaning and maintenance
Hand wash the brace in warm water using mild soap and rinse thoroughly. Air dry only. Note: If not rinsed thoroughly, residual soap may cause skin irritation and deteriorate the material.
