Quick guide from the manual
The Electro-Harmonix Bass Clone is a compact chorus pedal designed for bassists. It features variable parameters to create effects ranging from subtle modulation to extreme vibrato. The pedal includes a footswitch for true bypass, and specific controls to shape the tone, including a crossover switch to maintain low-end clarity.
Controls and I/O
- Footswitch & Status LED: Press the footswitch to toggle between effect and true bypass. The red LED indicates the effect is engaged.
- DEPTH Knob: Adjusts the amount of modulation.
- RATE Knob: Adjusts the speed of modulation.
- BASS Knob: Boosts or cuts low end from the dry half of the signal. No change at 12 o'clock.
- TREBLE Knob: Boosts or cuts high end from the mixed effect signal. No change at 12 o'clock.
- X-OVER Switch: When flipped up, it cuts low end from the modulated half of the signal, helping to retain punch and clarity on lower notes.
- INPUT Jack: Connect your instrument or another pedal here. Note: The battery is drained when a cable is plugged into this jack, even in bypass mode.
- AMP Jack: Connect to your amplifier.
Power Requirements
The Bass Clone can be powered by a 9V battery or an external power supply. Use an Electro-Harmonix 9.6DC-200BI power supply (or equivalent Boss/Ibanez style adapter) that provides 9V DC, 15mA, with a center negative plug. Using the wrong adapter or polarity may damage the unit.
Changing the Battery
To replace the 9V battery:
- Remove the four screws on the bottom of the pedal.
- Take off the bottom plate.
- Replace the battery.
- Reattach the bottom plate.
Warning: Do not touch the circuit board while the bottom plate is removed to avoid damaging components.

The battery is drained whenever a cable is plugged into the INPUT jack, regardless of whether the pedal is in effect or bypass mode. Unplug the input cable when not in use.
Before use
- Ensure you have a 9V battery or a compatible 9.6V DC center-negative power supply.
- Connect your instrument to the INPUT jack.
- Connect your amplifier to the AMP jack.
