Quick guide from the manual

The LPB-1 Linear Power Booster is a reissue of the 1968 original, designed to increase guitar sustain and boost the performance of other effects, particularly distortion devices. The unit features a simple boost control and a footswitch for true bypass operation.

Controls

  • Boost Control: Adjusts the amount of signal boost.
  • Footswitch: Engages or disengages the effect. The LED indicates when the pedal is active. When the LED is off, the unit is in True Bypass mode.

Operation and Power

The pedal is powered by an internal 9-volt battery or an external power supply. Power is activated by plugging a cable into the input jack. To prevent battery drain, always remove the input cable when the unit is not in use.

External Power Supply

The unit requires a 9-volt battery eliminator capable of delivering at least 100 mA of current. The connector must have a negative center (inner ring) and a positive outer ring. The optional Electro-Harmonix power supply is the US96DC-200BI.

Battery Replacement

  1. Remove the 4 screws located on the bottom of the pedal.
  2. Carefully remove the bottom plate.
  3. Replace the 9-volt battery.
  4. Reattach the bottom plate.

Warning: Do not touch the internal circuit board while the bottom plate is removed to avoid damaging components.

Technical Specifications

  • Input Impedance: 43 kohms
  • Output Impedance: 10 kohms
  • Power Requirements: 9V DC, 100 mA minimum, center negative

Practical help

Common problems

Battery drains quickly

Ensure the input cable is removed from the pedal when not in use, as the battery is only disconnected when the input jack is empty.

No sound or effect not working

Check the battery level or ensure the external power supply is correctly connected and meets the 9V DC, 100mA center-negative requirement.

Before use

  • Ensure you have a 9V battery or a compatible 9V DC power supply.
  • Verify the power supply polarity is center-negative.
  • Check that your instrument cable is plugged into the input to activate the unit.
  • Ensure the footswitch LED is lit to confirm the effect is engaged.

Specs in practice

Input Impedance (43 kohms)
The electrical load the pedal presents to your guitar pickups.
Output Impedance (10 kohms)
The electrical resistance of the output signal, suitable for driving subsequent pedals or amplifiers.

Model compatibility

  • Compatible with standard 9V DC center-negative power supplies (100mA minimum).
  • The unit is a Class B digital device compliant with FCC Part 15 rules.
