Quick guide from the manual

The Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork is a polyphonic pitch-shifter and harmony pedal. To get started, connect the supplied 9V DC power adaptor to the power jack or use a 9V battery. Connect your instrument to the INPUT jack and your amplifier to the OUTPUT jack. The pedal features two main operation modes: Latch and Momentary, selectable via the LATCH button. Ensure you use a center-negative power supply to avoid damage.

Device Overview

The Pitch Fork allows you to transpose your instrument's pitch over a range of up to +/- 3 octaves. It features a BLEND knob for mixing dry and effected signals, a SHIFT knob for selecting the transposition interval, and a MODE toggle switch to determine if the pitch is shifted up, down, or both simultaneously.

Controls and Operation

BLEND Knob: Mixes between the untreated analog dry signal and the effected signal. At the full clockwise position, the output is 100% wet.

SHIFT Knob: Selects the maximum interval of chromatic transposition, ranging from Detune to 3 octaves.

MODE Toggle Switch: Determines the direction of the pitch shift. In Dual mode, the pedal outputs two pitch-shifted signals: one following the SHIFT knob setting and another creating a musical harmony.

LATCH Button: Selects between Latch and Momentary modes. In Latch mode, the footswitch toggles the effect on and off. In Momentary mode, the effect is active only while the footswitch is held down.

Expression Pedal Setup

The EXP jack accepts a TRS expression pedal or a 0-5V control voltage input. It is recommended to use a 10k linear potentiometer. In Latch mode, the expression pedal controls the pitch shift amount. In Momentary mode, it controls the glissando rate of the footswitch.

Saving Glissando Rate

To save a custom glissando rate: 1. Set the LATCH button to Momentary. 2. Connect an expression pedal or CV device. 3. Press and release the footswitch while adjusting the external device to the desired rate. 4. Press and hold the footswitch. 5. Press the LATCH button to switch to Latch mode (LED flashes to confirm). 6. Release the footswitch.

Maintenance and Specifications

To change the 9-volt battery, remove the four screws on the bottom plate. Avoid touching the circuit board. Disconnect the INPUT jack when not in use to extend battery life. The device features high-quality buffered bypass, an input impedance of 2.2M Ohm, an output impedance of 680 Ohm, and a current draw of 30mA.

Practical help

Common problems

LED blinks dimly every second

Battery power is too low; replace the 9V battery.

Expression pedal not controlling pitch or glissando rate

Ensure the pedal uses a 10k linear potentiometer and that the wiper is connected to the TIP, with toe-down connected to the RING.

Glissando rate not saving

Ensure you follow the specific sequence: set to Momentary, adjust rate, hold footswitch, and press LATCH button to switch modes.

Before use

  • Connect 9V DC power supply or install a fresh 9V battery.
  • Connect instrument to the INPUT jack.
  • Connect amplifier to the OUTPUT jack.
  • Set the LATCH button to the desired mode (Latch or Momentary).
  • Set the MODE toggle switch to the desired direction (Up, Down, or Dual).

Specs in practice

Current draw
30mA; ensures compatibility with standard power supplies.
Input impedance
2.2M Ohm; standard for high-quality instrument inputs.
Output impedance
680 Ohm; suitable for driving standard amplifier inputs.

Model compatibility

  • Requires 9V DC center-negative power supply (200mA).
  • Expression pedal should ideally use a 10k linear potentiometer.
  • Some expression pedals may require a special cable to swap RING and TIP connections.
