Quick guide to product certifications
This document provides essential regulatory, environmental, and installation information for the Emerson 1208A Level and Flow Transmitter. It covers compliance with European, UK, FCC, and Industry Canada regulations, as well as hygienic approval standards.
Environmental conditions
The transmitter is designed to operate within the following environmental parameters:
- Operating temperature: -40 to 176°F (-40 to 80°C)
- Operating pressure: -14.5 to 43.5 psig (-1 to +3 Bar)
- Electrical supply: 18-30 Vdc, 3.6 W
- Maximum altitude: 6562 ft (2000 m)
- Pollution degree: 2
Installation and safety requirements
Proper installation is critical for safety and regulatory compliance:
- UV Protection: The transmitter must not be used where UV light or radiation may impinge on the enclosure.
- Current Limiting: A current limiting device in accordance with 61010-1 requirements must be installed to ensure the maximum short circuit current of the supply does not exceed 4.28A.
- Connector: Use power connector Part Number EVC018 manufactured by IFM to maintain Enclosure Type 4X and 6P ratings.
- Radio Astronomy Sites: Install at a separation distance of greater than 4 km from Radio Astronomy sites.
Regulatory compliance
The device complies with FCC and Industry Canada regulations. Users are advised that this equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device. If interference occurs, users should reorient or relocate the receiving antenna, increase separation between equipment and receiver, or connect the equipment to a different circuit.
Hygienic approvals and materials
For hygienic installations, the transmitter must be installed in a closed tank. It is the user's responsibility to ensure that materials are suitable for the media and cleaning processes, and that the installation is drainable and cleanable. Product contact surfaces include PVDF Kynar 720 and Grey EMA MB (EMA 3C110), which are compliant with FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 and other relevant food and beverage safety regulations.
Practical help
Common problems
Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna, increase separation between the equipment and receiver, or connect the equipment to a different circuit.
Ensure the transmitter is not installed in locations where UV light or radiation can directly hit the enclosure.
Before use
- Verify the power supply is 18-30 Vdc.
- Ensure the installation environment is within -40 to 176°F (-40 to 80°C).
- Confirm the current limiting device is installed per 61010-1 requirements.
- Check that the transmitter is installed in a closed tank for hygienic applications.
- Ensure the power connector used maintains Enclosure Type 4X and 6P ratings.
Specs in practice
- Operating pressure
- -14.5 to 43.5 psig (-1 to +3 Bar)
