This document provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation of the HiKOKI D 10YB Angle Drill. Before using the tool, ensure the power source matches the nameplate specifications and that the power switch is in the OFF position to prevent accidental startup. Always wear ear protection and use the provided auxiliary handle for better control. When drilling through materials, be prepared for the drill to break through and maintain a firm grip with both hands.
Product Description
The HiKOKI D 10YB is an angle drill designed for drilling holes in metal, wood, and plastic. It features an electric control circuit for variable speed adjustment and a reversible rotation direction.
Safety Warnings
- General Power Tool Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Do not operate in explosive atmospheres. Keep children and bystanders away.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure plugs match the outlet. Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces. Do not expose the tool to rain or wet conditions.
- Personal Safety: Stay alert and use common sense. Wear personal protective equipment, including eye protection. Prevent unintentional starting by ensuring the switch is OFF before connecting to power.
- Angle Drill Specifics: Always wear ear protectors. Use the auxiliary handle supplied. Hold the drill and side handle securely with both hands. Do not wear loose gloves that could get caught in moving parts. Check for hidden electric cables or conduits before drilling into walls, ceilings, or floors.
Prior to Operation

- Power Source: Verify the power source conforms to the requirements on the product nameplate.
- Extension Cord: Use an extension cord of sufficient thickness and rated capacity if the work area is far from the power source. Keep it as short as possible.
- Direction of Rotation: Use the reversing switch lever. Push the R-side for clockwise rotation and the L-side for counterclockwise rotation. Never change direction while the tool is operating.
- Mounting Drill Bits: Use the chuck wrench to tighten the bit. Insert the wrench into all three holes on the chuck and tighten equally.
- Selecting Drill Bits: Use metalworking bits for metal/plastic (1.5 mm to 10 mm). Use woodworking bits for wood.
- Side Handle: Screw the side handle into the gear cover.
How to Use

- Switching: To turn ON, slide the switch lever backward until it locks. To turn OFF, press the round convex on the surface of the switch lever to release the lock.
- Drilling: Do not apply excessive force; it does not speed up drilling and can damage the bit or motor.
- Speed Adjustment: Use the dial (Fig. 5) to adjust speed. Setting 1 is minimum (500/min), and 5 is maximum (2300/min). If the drill does not rotate at setting 1, raise the dial slightly.
Maintenance and Inspection
- Drill Bits: Replace or resharpen abraded bits immediately to prevent motor malfunction.
- Mounting Screws: Regularly inspect and tighten all mounting screws.
- Motor: Keep the motor winding clean and free from oil or water.
- Carbon Brushes: Inspect regularly. Replace with new ones of the same number when worn to the "wear limit". Ensure they slide freely in the holders.
