The Hilti SCM 22-A is a professional-grade cordless circular saw designed for cutting metals and metal-like materials. Before first use, ensure the battery is fully charged and the saw blade is correctly installed. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection, a hard hat, ear protection, and a dust mask. The tool features an electronic protection system to prevent overloading and overheating.

Description and controls

The SCM 22-A features several key controls:

• Battery: Located at the rear, requires a double-click to engage.
• On/Off Switch: Includes a switch-on interlock for safety.
• Cutting Depth Adjustment: Controlled by a clamping lever.
• Chip Collector: Must be fitted during use to collect metal chips.
• LED/Viewing Window: Helps monitor the cutting line.

Operation

Fitting and removing the battery

To fit the battery, push it into the tool from the rear until it engages with a double click. To remove, press both release buttons and pull the battery toward the rear.

Changing the saw blade

1. Remove the battery.
2. Press and hold the drive spindle lockbutton.
3. Use the hexagon socket wrench to turn the clamping screw and remove it.
4. Open the pivoting guard and remove the old blade.
5. Clean the flanges, insert the new blade (observing the direction-of-rotation arrow), and re-secure the clamping screw.

Adjusting cutting depth

The cutting depth is infinitely adjustable between 0 and 57 mm. Release the clamping lever, lift the tool in a scissor movement to the desired depth, and close the lever.

Sawing

Secure the workpiece with clamps. Position the forward section of the base plate on the workpiece without touching the blade. Activate the switch-on interlock, then press the on/off switch. Guide the saw along the cutting line at a steady speed.

Care and maintenance

Regular maintenance is essential for safety and performance:

• Cleaning: Keep the tool, especially grip surfaces, free from oil and grease. Clean ventilation slots with a dry brush.
• Chip Collector: Empty regularly. Wear protective gloves as chips are sharp and hot.
• Safety Devices: Periodically clean safety devices and check that the pivoting guard moves freely.
• Battery Care: Store in a cool, dry place. Do not allow the battery to fully discharge.

Troubleshooting

If the tool fails to operate, check the battery charge and ensure it is properly engaged. If the saw blade jams, reduce advance pressure. If the tool stops due to overload or overheating, release the switch and allow it to cool down.
