Table of contents

Quick guide from the manual

This document provides essential installation and maintenance instructions for the Knightsbridge 1.7W LED Ground/Deck Light (models LEDM09WW and LEDM09CW). Key requirements include:

  • Drainage: A minimum of 300mm of drainage is required below the luminaire.
  • Cut-out: 77mm with sleeve, 75mm without sleeve.
  • Wiring: Must be connected to the mains supply with correct polarity (L - Live, E - Earth, N - Neutral).
  • Safety: Class I product, must be earthed. IP65 rated.

General Instructions

These instructions should be read carefully and retained by the end user. The light source is non-replaceable; when it reaches the end of its life, the entire luminaire must be replaced. This product is non-dimmable.

Safety

Installation must comply with the latest edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671) and current Building Regulations. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician. Always isolate the mains before installation or maintenance. This product is not suitable for installation in or near coastal or marine environments. Avoid installing in areas with a high risk of flooding or where water may sit on top of the fitting. In high 'clay' content soils, which retain water, we recommend using IP67 or IP68 products instead of this IP65 luminaire.

Installation

Ensure the total load on the circuit does not exceed the rating of the circuit cable, fuse, or circuit breaker. If using an external PIR or sensor, confirm compatibility with LED luminaires with the sensor manufacturer.

Drainage and location requirements
Drainage and location requirements
  1. Provide power to the installation point using suitable IP-rated junction boxes.
  2. Cut a hole in the mounting surface according to the cut-out details (77mm with sleeve, 75mm without). Ensure you do not infringe on joists, gas/water pipes, or electrical cables.
  3. Ensure a minimum of 300mm of drainage is provided below the luminaire.
  4. Connect the luminaire to the mains supply: L (Brown), E (Green/Yellow), N (Blue).
  5. Ensure there is enough cable below the luminaire to allow for future maintenance.
  6. Switch on and check for correct operation.

Maintenance

Clean external surfaces with a damp cloth using a mild solution of detergent and warm water only. Do not use aggressive cleaning products, solvents, or high-pressure washers. A light film of acid-free oil is recommended after installation and periodically (2-3 times a year) to aid corrosion prevention.

Warranty

This product has a 3-year warranty from the date of purchase. Failure to install in accordance with IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671), improper use, or removal of the batch code will invalidate the warranty.

Practical help

Common problems

Water ingress or failure in clay soil

High clay content soils retain water. IP65 luminaires may be compromised; use IP67 or IP68 rated products in these conditions.

Light not working after installation

Check that the mains supply is connected with correct polarity (L, E, N) and that the circuit is not overloaded.

Luminaire damaged by cleaning

Do not use high-pressure washers, solvents, or aggressive cleaning products. Use only a damp cloth with mild detergent.

Before use

  • Isolate the mains supply before starting work.
  • Verify the mounting surface is clear of joists, pipes, and cables.
  • Ensure 300mm of drainage material (pea shingle or gravel) is available below the fitting.
  • Check that the circuit load is within limits.
  • Confirm the cut-out size: 77mm (with sleeve) or 75mm (without sleeve).

Specs in practice

Non-dimmable
Do not connect to a dimmer switch.

Images and diagrams

  • Fig 2: Illustrates the 300mm minimum drainage requirement and warns against installation in flood-prone areas.
  • Fig 3: Demonstrates the wiring connection and the necessity of leaving a cable loop for maintenance access.

Model compatibility

  • Not suitable for coastal or marine environments.
  • Not suitable for high clay content soils (unless IP67/68 is used).
  • If using external sensors, verify compatibility with LED luminaires.
