This document provides the necessary steps to install the Minka Lavery 1701-781 semi-flush mount light. Before beginning, ensure you have all parts listed in the manual and that the power is completely shut off at the circuit breaker. The installation requires basic electrical knowledge; if you are unsure, consult a qualified electrician.
Preparation
1. Shut off power at the circuit breaker and remove the old fixture, including the existing mounting hardware.
2. Carefully unpack the fixture and verify that all parts are included as shown in the illustration.
Installation Steps
1. Secure the rod (F) to the top of the fixture body (G) and the canopy (D), pulling the wires through as you assemble.

2. Thread the mounting screws (A) into the pre-drilled holes in the crossbar (B). Adjust the length of the screws if necessary to match the holes in the canopy (D).
3. Attach the crossbar (B) to the junction box (S) using the provided mounting screws (Q). Ensure the side of the crossbar marked “GND” faces outward.
Wiring Connections
Connect the electrical wires as follows:

- Black or Smooth fixture wire: Connect to the Black (Hot) house wire.
- White or Ribbed fixture wire: Connect to the White (Neutral) house wire.
- Bare Copper fixture wire: Connect to the Green (Ground) house wire. If the junction box does not have a ground wire, connect the fixture's ground wire directly to the crossbar (B) using the provided green screw (R).
Ensure all wire connectors are secure and tuck them neatly into the junction box (S).
Final Assembly
1. Slide the canopy (D) over the screws (A) and secure it using the finials (E).
2. Install three medium base bulbs (up to 60 watts each) or equivalent CFL/LED bulbs. Do not exceed the maximum wattage rating.
3. Slide the metal washer (I), rubber washer (J), glass (N), and finial cap (M) over the bottom center stem (H).
4. Use the hex nut (K) and finial (L) to secure the glass (N) and finial cap (M) to the fixture body.
Once assembly is complete, restore power to the junction box and test the fixture.
