This document provides essential installation and operation instructions for the RetroSound 068NEWM1B Newport radio face. Key installation steps involve assembling the shafts with spacers and washers, connecting the ribbon cable to the radio motor, and securing the faceplate. Operation is managed via four knobs and five preset buttons. Ensure the RetroSound logo is facing up during installation.
What's in the box
The package includes the Newport radio face, control shafts, knobs, and necessary hardware (spacers, washers, nuts, and screws). Please refer to the kit installation instructions for specific hardware usage.
Installation
Follow these steps to install the radio face:

- Place a metal spacer on each shaft and slide the shafts into the Radio Face.
- Place the white plastic spacer and thin metal washer onto the shaft, then secure with the shaft nut. Do not overtighten.
- Install the rear knob first, followed by the front knob.
- Plug the ribbon cable from the Radio Motor into the Radio Face.
- Attach the Radio Face to the Radio Motor using the four small screws.
- With the radio facing towards you, plug the top Control Shaft into the left side of the Radio Motor.
- Plug the bottom Control Shaft into the right side of the Radio Motor.
- Ensure the backstrap is mounted securely.
Control layout
The radio face features four main control knobs and five preset buttons:

- 1: Top-Front Knob (Power, Volume, EQ, Tone Control)
- 2: Top-Rear Knob (Source Modes)
- 3: Bottom-Front Knob (Tune, Mute, System Settings, Clock, Display Color, Beep)
- 4: Bottom-Rear Knob (Radio Bands)
- 5: Preset Buttons (Radio Presets)
Basic operation
Power On/Off: Press the Top-Front Knob(1) to power on. Press and hold to power off.
Volume: Rotate the Top-Front Knob(1).
Changing Source Modes: Rotate the Top-Rear Knob(2) clockwise.
Changing Radio Bands: Rotate the Bottom-Rear Knob(4) counter-clockwise.
Tune: Rotate the Bottom-Front Knob(3) to scroll through stations.
Mute: Press the Bottom-Front Knob(3).
Equalizer (EQ): Press the Top-Front Knob(1) to enter the Tone Control sub-menu. Press and release to cycle through settings, rotate to adjust, and let the unit time out to save.
System Settings (Clock, Display Color, Beep): Press and hold the Bottom-Front Knob(3) to enter the System Settings sub-menu. Rotate to cycle through choices (CLK, SCAN, BEEP ON/OFF), press to select, and adjust as needed.
Radio presets
Setting Radio Presets: Tune to the desired station, then press and hold the desired Preset Button(5) for two seconds.
Recalling Radio Presets: Simply press the Preset Button(5) that the station was previously set to.
Practical help
Common problems
Do not overtighten the shaft nut when securing the shaft to the radio face.
Ensure the ribbon cable is securely connected between the Radio Motor and the Radio Face.
Before use
- Ensure the RetroSound logo is facing up.
- Verify all four small screws are used to attach the Radio Face to the Radio Motor.
- Confirm the top Control Shaft is plugged into the left side of the Radio Motor.
- Confirm the bottom Control Shaft is plugged into the right side of the Radio Motor.
- Ensure the backstrap is mounted securely.
