The Sealey 0-30V Power Scope Automotive Probe (PP100.V2) is a diagnostic tool designed for 2V-24V DC automotive systems. It features a scope function, continuity testing, and the ability to activate components in situ. Important: Do not use on ignition systems, AC circuits, or sensitive electronics without following specific safety procedures. The tool includes an internal 8A circuit breaker for overload protection.
Basic Connections
Connect the red battery clip to the positive terminal and the black clip to the negative terminal of the vehicle battery. Alternatively, use the provided 12V accessory socket adaptor. Upon connection, the probe enters voltage mode, and the work lights illuminate.
Operating Modes
- Voltage: Displays circuit voltage to the nearest 0.1V.
- Scope: Displays max/min voltage, frequency, and duty cycle.
- Resistance: Measures resistance between the probe tip and the auxiliary ground lead.
- Audible Indicator: Toggle on/off by pressing and holding the mode button.
Testing Procedures
The probe allows for various diagnostic tests:
- Voltage and Polarity: Red LED indicates positive, green LED indicates negative.
- Continuity: Use resistance mode to check wires and components. A reading of 0.0Ω indicates continuity.
- Signal Circuit Testing: Use scope mode to monitor sensor signals.
- Component Activation: Connect the auxiliary ground lead to the component's negative terminal and touch the probe to the positive terminal to activate.
- Short Circuit Location: Use the probe to energize fuse contacts; the contact that trips the circuit breaker identifies the shorted circuit.
Maintenance
The power switch is a user-replaceable part. If it deteriorates, carefully pry the old switch from the casing and press the replacement unit into place until it locks.
Safety
Always consult the vehicle service manual before disconnecting any sub-systems. Do not use the tool around explosive gases or vapors. If the tool fails to operate, press the circuit breaker reset button on the side of the housing.

Common problems
Circuit breaker trips during testing
The unit is overloaded. Check for a direct earth, a short circuit in the component, or high current draw (e.g., starter motor). Reset using the button on the side of the housing.
No LED illumination during voltage test
The voltage at the probe tip is likely outside the ±0.8V range of the supply battery voltage.
Tool fails to operate
Depress the circuit breaker reset button on the right side of the housing and repeat the test.
Before use
- Verify the vehicle system is 2V-24V DC.
- Check vehicle wiring and disconnect sensitive modules (e.g., airbags) if necessary.
- Ensure the probe leads are not damaged or bared.
- Wear eye protection.
- Connect the auxiliary ground lead if performing component activation.
