This hydraulic coil spring compressing station is designed for professional workshop use. Safety is paramount: always wear approved eye and hand protection, keep hands away from the spring and jaws during operation, and ensure the unit is secured to the floor before use. Never leave a spring under compression unattended or overnight.
Introduction and Specifications
The RE231.V3 is a 1500kg foot-operated hydraulic unit designed to compress springs with diameters ranging from 80mm to 175mm. It features plastic-coated yokes to reduce the risk of slippage or damage.
- Max. load: 1500kg
- Upper yoke positions: 7
- Lower yoke travel: 340mm
- Spring diameter: 80-175mm
- Actuation: Foot pedal
Assembly
Refer to the parts diagram provided with the unit for specific fixings.

- Attach the brackets to the base and secure the machine to the floor using suitable fixings.
- Attach the pedal to the pump and secure.
- Attach the safety chains to each side of the upper strut support.
- Mounting the yokes: Push the required top yoke onto the mounting spigot and secure with the retaining pin and 'R' clip. Repeat for the lower yoke. Ensure the bottom yoke faces up and the top yoke faces down.
Operating Instructions
Compressing a spring:

- Adjust the upper support height by releasing the locking pins, moving the support, and re-inserting the pins with 'R' clips.
- Place the spring between the yokes. Wrap safety chains around the spring: one chain around a coil above the top yoke and the other below the bottom yoke. Ensure chains are tight and not trapped between coils.
- Apply light hydraulic pressure with the foot pedal to check the spring is seated correctly.
- Continue to compress the spring gradually, standing to the side of the machine. Do not compress until coils touch; only compress until the top nut is free.
- Use a purpose-made strut nut socket to remove the nut. Support the shock absorber to prevent it from falling.
- To decompress, press the release valve pedal gradually.
Maintenance
Before each use, inspect the compressor for damage, wear, or fatigue. If the unit shows signs of wear, do not use it and contact your Sealey stockist.
Hydraulic Oil Check: If performance is lost, check the oil level. Ensure the ram is fully lowered, remove the filler plug, and check that the level is within 10mm of the filler hole. Use Sealey Hydraulic Jack Oil if refilling is necessary.

Common problems
Check the hydraulic oil level. Ensure the ram is fully lowered, remove the filler plug, and verify the level is within 10mm of the filler hole. Top up with Sealey Hydraulic Jack Oil if needed.
Ensure the spring coils are seated securely in the yokes and that safety chains are wrapped tightly around the spring (one above top yoke, one below bottom yoke).
Before use
- Ensure the compressor is securely bolted to the floor.
- Wear approved safety hand and eye protection.
- Inspect the compressor for any damage, missing parts, or signs of fatigue.
- Verify that jaw locating pins are properly positioned and safety clips are attached.
- Ensure the spring diameter is within the 80-175mm range.
