This manual provides instructions for the Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II VC LD Aspherical [IF] (Model B005) lens. It covers essential operations such as mounting the lens, using the Vibration Compensation (VC) mechanism, and utilizing the zoom lock switch. Please read the precautions regarding flash usage and camera shake to ensure optimal image quality.

Attaching and Removing the Lens

To mount the lens: Remove the rear cap. Align the lens attachment mark on the lens barrel with the counterpart on the camera mount. Insert the lens and rotate it until it clicks into the locking position (counter-clockwise for Nikon, clockwise for Canon).

To detach the lens: Press the lens release button on the camera. Rotate the lens in the opposite direction of mounting until it unlocks, then lift it off.

Focusing

Autofocus (AF): Switch the AF/MF switch on the lens to AF. For Nikon cameras with a focus mode selector, set the camera to S or C mode first. Press the shutter button halfway to focus.

Manual Focus (MF): Switch the AF/MF switch on the lens to MF. Rotate the focusing ring while viewing through the viewfinder until the subject appears sharp.

VC Mechanism (Vibration Compensation)

The VC mechanism reduces image blur caused by hand-held shooting. To use: Set the VC switch to ON. Press the shutter button halfway; it takes about 1 second for the VC to provide a stable image. Turn the VC switch OFF when using a tripod or during long exposures.

Zooming and Zoom Lock

Rotate the zooming ring to compose your image. The Zoom Lock Switch prevents the lens barrel from extending under its own weight while carrying the camera. To lock, set the lens to the 17mm position and move the switch toward the camera. To release, push the switch away from the camera.

Lens Hood

The bayonet-type lens hood helps eliminate stray light. Align the hood attaching alignment mark on the hood with the index mark on the lens, then rotate clockwise to secure. Note: Remove the hood when using the built-in flash to prevent vignetting (shadows) in your images.

Precautions in Shooting

• Vignetting: Do not use this lens on cameras with sensors larger than APS-C.
• Built-in Flash: The lens hood or barrel may block the flash, causing shadows. Use an external flash unit if necessary.
• Camera Shake: Use higher ISO settings or a tripod/monopod if you experience blur in the telephoto range.

Maintenance and Care

• Avoid touching the glass surface. Use a lens cloth or blower to remove dust.
• Use a lens cleaning tissue with a drop of cleaning solution for fingerprints, using a rotary motion from center to edge.
• Store in a clean, cool, dry place. Use drying agents like silica gel if storing in a case.
• Do not touch the lens-camera interface contacts.
