Quick guide from the manual

The Vitamix 12-Cup Food Processor Attachment is designed exclusively for use with Vitamix Self-detect blenders, including the Ascent and Venturist series. It will not function on blender bases without the Self-detect feature. Always ensure the work bowl is properly locked onto the base before operation.

Safety Warnings

  • Sharp Blades: Handle the multi-use blade and discs with extreme care. Always pick them up by the plastic neck or finger holes.
  • Continuous Use: Do not operate the machine continuously for more than 3 minutes.
  • Capacity Limits: Do not exceed 12 cups for dry ingredients or 9 cups for wet ingredients.
  • Prohibited Items: Do not process frozen meat, meat with bones, or hard vegetables with the chopping blade.
  • Microwave: Do not place any part of the food processor in the microwave.

Product Overview

The system includes a work bowl, snap-on lid, small and large food pushers, a multi-use chopping blade, and slicing/shredding discs. The self-detect base is not dishwasher safe; all other parts are.

Assembly

Locking the work bowl to the base
Locking the work bowl to the base
  1. Place the work bowl onto the self-detect base until you hear an audible click.
  2. Insert the desired blade or disc onto the center shaft.
  3. Secure the snap-on lid onto the work bowl until you hear two clicks.
  4. Insert the large food pusher into the lid opening.
  5. Insert the small food pusher into the large food pusher. The unit will not operate unless the lid and large pusher are secured.

Processing

To Chop: Remove the small food pusher, press Start/Stop on the blender base, and feed ingredients through the opening.

To Slice or Shred: Select the appropriate pusher size. Place the ingredient in the feed tube, place the large pusher on top, press Start/Stop, and apply slight pressure to feed the ingredient against the disc.

Cleaning

All parts except the self-detect base are dishwasher safe. To clean the base, wipe with a cloth moistened with warm, soapy water and dry with a clean towel. If your blender has a cleaning program, you can fill the bowl halfway with warm water and a few drops of dish soap, then run the program.

Storage

The storage case is designed to hold the discs. Place the multi-purpose blade in the bowl, turn the snap-on lid upside down, snap the storage case onto the bottom of the lid, and store the discs inside.

Troubleshooting

  • Uneven chopping: You may be processing too much food at once or running the machine continuously instead of pulsing.
  • Leaking: You have exceeded the maximum liquid capacity (9 cups).
  • Uneven slices: Pack the feed tube more carefully and maintain even pressure on the pusher.
  • Carrots falling over: Cut food into short pieces of equal height to fill the feed tube.

Practical help

Common problems

Food is unevenly chopped

Process smaller batches or use pulse instead of continuous operation.

Liquid leaks out between bowl and cover

You have added too much liquid. Never use more than 9 cups of thin or thick liquid.

Slices are uneven or slanted

Pack the feed tube more carefully and maintain even pressure on the pusher.

Carrots or similar food falls over in feed tube

Cut food into short pieces of equal height to fill the feed tube. For one or two pieces, use the small feed tube.

Before use

  • Ensure your blender base has the Self-detect feature.
  • Remove all packaging materials.
  • Wash all parts (except the base) before first use.
  • Ensure the work bowl is locked onto the base (listen for the click).
  • Ensure the lid and large food pusher are secured.
