The VOX FUZZ (VFZ-1) is a vintage-style effect pedal designed to recreate 1960s fuzz tones. It requires a 9V battery or a 9V AC adapter (600mA or greater). Always turn off connected equipment before making connections to avoid damage.
Part names and functions

- INPUT jack: Connect your guitar here. Acts as a power switch when using battery power.
- OUTPUT jack: Connect to your amplifier or other effect pedals.
- Effect switch: Toggles between effect sound (indicator lit) and bypass sound.
- Crunch switch: Right for original tone, left for low gain (chime-like crunch).
- FUZZ knob: Adjusts distortion amount. Note: The original circuit design means this knob may produce noise.
- VOLUME knob: Adjusts output volume.
- TONE CUT knob: Adjusts high frequencies.
- BASS CUT knob: Adjusts low frequencies before the distortion circuit.
- DC 9V jack: For external power supply.
Battery installation
- Unscrew the four screws on the sides of the pedal and remove the bottom plate.
- Attach a 9V battery to the clip, ensuring correct polarity.
- Insert the battery and reattach the bottom plate.
Note: Remove the battery if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.

Setup
1. Set the VOLUME knob to minimum. 2. Connect your guitar to the INPUT jack. 3. Connect your amplifier or other device to the OUTPUT jack. 4. Turn on your equipment. 5. Adjust volume and tone settings as desired.

Practical help
Common problems
Check that the battery is not depleted, cables are securely connected, and the VOLUME knob is turned up.
This is normal behavior due to the original circuit design used in this pedal.
Unplug the cable from the INPUT jack when not in use, as the input jack acts as the power switch.
Before use
- Purchase a 9V battery (6LF22/6LR61/6F22) as it is not included.
- Turn off all connected equipment before making connections.
- Set the VOLUME knob to the minimum level before turning on equipment.
- Ensure the battery polarity is correct during installation.
Specs in practice
- Input impedance: 10 kΩ
- Standard impedance for guitar pickups to ensure proper signal transfer.
- Output impedance: 330 Ω
- Low output impedance suitable for driving guitar amplifiers or other pedals.
- Battery life: Approx. 180 hours
- Estimated time using a 9V alkaline battery under continuous use.
Images and diagrams
- The setup diagram illustrates the signal chain: Guitar -> Input -> Pedal -> Output -> Amp.
- The battery compartment is accessed by removing the four screws on the sides of the pedal.
Model compatibility
- Requires 9V battery or AC adapter (9V, 600mA or greater).
- Uses true bypass in bypass mode.
