Quick guide from the manual

This document provides instructions for the AcuRite 00424/00522 wireless thermometer. Key steps include installing batteries in both the display unit and the outdoor sensor, ensuring proper placement for accurate readings, and troubleshooting wireless connectivity issues.

Setup

Install or Replace Batteries: AcuRite recommends high-quality alkaline batteries. For the outdoor sensor, use lithium batteries if temperatures drop below -4°F (-20°C). To install: slide off the battery compartment cover, insert 2 x AA batteries following the polarity (+/-) diagram, and replace the cover.

Temperature Units: To switch between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C), press the °C/°F button located inside the battery compartment of the display unit.

Placement Guidelines

For maximum accuracy, follow these guidelines:

  • Place the display unit in a dry area free of dust. It can be used on a tabletop or wall-mounted.
  • Place the outdoor sensor outside in a location protected from direct weather elements, 4 to 8 feet above the ground.
  • Ensure both units are within 165 ft (50 m) of each other.
  • Keep units at least 3 ft (0.9 m) away from electronic devices (TVs, microwaves, computers) to prevent interference.
  • Avoid placing units near large metallic items or thick walls.

Operation

The system synchronizes automatically. High/Low temperature records are reset every 24 hours based on the time the unit was powered on. The display unit shows current indoor/outdoor temperatures, signal strength, and low battery indicators for both units.

Care & Maintenance

Clean both the display unit and the outdoor sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use caustic cleaners or abrasives. Regularly clean the display unit's ventilation ports with a gentle puff of air.

Troubleshooting

If the wireless signal indicator shows no bars, relocate the units or check battery levels. If the outdoor temperature is flashing or showing dashes, bring both units indoors, remove batteries, reinstall them, and allow the units to sit near each other for 20 minutes to re-establish a connection.

Practical help

Common problems

No outdoor sensor reception (no bars)

Relocate units within 165 ft (50 m), ensure they are 3 ft away from electronics, and check battery type (use lithium for cold weather).

Outdoor temperature flashing or showing dashes

Indicates wireless interference. Bring units indoors, remove batteries from both, reinstall, and let them sit together for 20 minutes to reconnect.

Inaccurate temperature readings

Ensure units are placed out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources or vents.

Before use

  • Remove the protective film from the LCD screen.
  • Install 2 x AA alkaline batteries in the display unit.
  • Install 2 x AA alkaline (or lithium) batteries in the outdoor sensor.
  • Select preferred temperature units (°F/°C) inside the display battery compartment.
  • Register the product online at www.AcuRite.com for warranty protection.
