This manual provides essential information for the safe operation and maintenance of the AL-KO BC 330 and BC 400/500 series brushcutters. Before starting, ensure you have read the safety instructions, particularly regarding fuel handling and personal protective equipment.
Product Overview
The brushcutters are available in two handle configurations: 'Bike' handle (B models) and 'Loop' handle (L models). Both versions can be used with a spool head or a 3-toothed blade.

Assembly
Mounting the spool head: Place the driver plate on the guide pin of the angle-drive gearbox. Lock it using the Allen key and screw on the spool head (note: left-hand thread).

Fitting the blade: Place the driver plate on the guide pin, position the blade, add the flange and serrated washer, then secure with the fastening nut and split pin.
Handles: Follow the specific instructions for mounting the 'Loop' or 'Bike' handle onto the shaft using the provided rubber sleeves and screws.
Start-up
Fuel Mixture: Use a 50:1 mixture of unleaded petrol (min. 90 octane) and high-quality synthetic 2-stroke oil. Mix thoroughly in a fuel container before filling.
Operation
Starting the engine: Ensure the brushcutter is on a level, obstacle-free surface. For a cold start, set the switch to START, set the throttle, move the choke lever to CHOKE, and press the primer 7-10 times. Pull the starter handle until resistance is felt, then pull quickly. Once the engine starts, move the choke to RUN and repeat the pulling process if necessary. For a warm start, the choke is not used.
Stopping the engine: Release the throttle lever, move the switch to STOP, and wait for the cutting tool to stop completely.
Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance is required for safe operation. This includes cleaning/replacing the air filter, checking/replacing the fuel filter, maintaining the spark plug (check electrode gap 0.6-0.7 mm), and sharpening the line cutter. Refer to the maintenance schedule for specific intervals.

Troubleshooting
If the engine fails to start or runs poorly, check the fuel mixture, spark plug condition, air filter, and fuel filter. If the engine vibrates abnormally, stop immediately and check for loose or damaged parts.
