The Cuisinart Extreme Brew 10-Cup Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker is designed for precision brewing. Before your first use, it is recommended to flush the system by running a brew cycle with water only (no coffee grounds). Always ensure the thermal carafe is in place before brewing. The unit features a programmable Auto On function, a strength selector (Regular/Bold), and a 1-4 cup setting for smaller batches.

Getting to know your coffeemaker
The control panel allows you to manage all settings:

- Function Knob: Selects between Auto On, Prog (program), Brew, and Clock.
- Strength Selector: Choose between Regular or Bold flavor intensity.
- 1-4 Cup Setting: Use this when brewing fewer than 5 cups to improve extraction and temperature.
- Ready Tone: Signals the end of the brew cycle with five beeps.
- On/Off Button: Turns the unit on or off.
Programming and brewing
To set the clock, turn the function knob to CLOCK and use the Hour/Minute buttons. To set the Auto On time, turn the knob to PROG, set the desired time, then turn the knob to AUTO ON and press the On/Off button. When brewing, ensure the charcoal water filter is installed, fill the reservoir with cold water, and add ground coffee (max 15 scoops). Use a #4 paper filter or the included permanent gold-tone filter.
Charcoal water filter
The charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors. To install: soak the filter in cold water for 15 minutes, lift the filter holder out of the reservoir, insert the filter, and flush it under cold tap water for 10 seconds before sliding it back into the reservoir. Replace the filter every 60 days or 60 uses.

Cleaning and maintenance
Regular cleaning is essential for performance. The filter basket and carafe are dishwasher safe (upper rack). To decalcify, fill the reservoir with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water, press the Clean button, and turn the unit on. When the cycle finishes, run a cycle with fresh water to rinse.
Important safety and usage notes
- Brew Pause: You can remove the carafe mid-brew to pour a cup, but do not leave it out for more than 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
- Safety: Never open the filter basket during the brewing cycle. If water is not draining, unplug the unit and wait 10 minutes before checking.
- Maintenance: Do not use abrasive cleaners. Never immerse the base unit in water.
