Quick guide from the manual

The Whammy DT is a pitch-shifting pedal that combines classic Whammy effects with Drop Tuning and Raised Tuning capabilities. To get started, connect your instrument to the Input Jack and your amplifier to the Output Jack. Use the provided power supply only. If the expression pedal does not respond correctly, perform the calibration procedure by holding the WHAMMY Effect Footswitch while powering on, then following the on-screen LED prompts.

Device Overview

The pedal features two main sections: the Whammy side (Harmony, Whammy, Detune) and the Drop Tune side. The expression pedal controls the pitch bending amount. The device includes a Momentary switch for hammer-on/pull-off effects and supports an optional FS3X footswitch for hands-free control.

Making Connections

  1. Connect your instrument to the instrument Input Jack.
  2. Connect the Whammy's Output Jack to your distortion pedal or amplifier.
  3. If using MIDI, connect your external MIDI device to the MIDI Input.
  4. Connect the included power supply to an AC outlet and the Whammy's Power Input.
  5. Turn on your amplifier and adjust the volume.
  6. Use the WHAMMY and DROP TUNE footswitches to enable effects and rotate the corresponding knobs to select settings.

Effects

Whammy Effects: Bend the incoming signal up or down (e.g., 2 OCT UP, DIVE BOMB). The expression pedal controls the bend amount.

Harmony Effects: Add a harmony note to your signal. The harmony note bends between two intervals while the input signal remains unchanged.

Detune Effects: Create a copy of your input signal, shift the pitch, and mix it with the original signal (SHALLOW or DEEP settings).

Drop Tune Effects: Transpose your instrument up or down (up to one octave) for instant drop or raised tuning simulation.

MIDI Functions

The Whammy DT supports MIDI for remote effect selection and expression pedal control. To change the MIDI channel: disconnect power, press and hold the WHAMMY Effect Footswitch while reconnecting power, rotate the WHAMMY Effect Knob to select the channel, and press the footswitch again to exit.

Bypass Modes

The pedal offers two bypass modes:

  • True Bypass: Circuitry is completely bypassed when effects are off.
  • DSP Bypass: Allows smooth transitions for the Drop Tune Momentary footswitch.

To switch modes, hold the MOMENTARY footswitch while applying power. The DROP TUNE LED will flash red (True Bypass) or green (DSP Bypass) to indicate the mode.

Calibrating the Expression Pedal

  1. Disconnect power.
  2. Hold the WHAMMY Effect Footswitch while reconnecting power.
  3. Rock the Expression Pedal fully forward (toe down) and press the DROP TUNE Footswitch. The LED will turn green.
  4. Rock the pedal fully back and forward at least twice.
  5. Press the WHAMMY Effect Footswitch to exit.

FS3X Functions

The optional FS3X Footswitch allows hands-free selection of effects. Use the Mode switch to select the side (Whammy or Drop Tune) and the Up/Down switches to cycle through effect lists.

Specifications

The pedal requires a 9 VDC external adapter. It features 1/4" unbalanced TS inputs/outputs, 24-bit A/D and D/A conversion, and a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

Practical help

Common problems

Expression pedal does not respond properly or note does not bend to the correct pitch.

Perform the expression pedal re-calibration procedure described in the manual.

Need to switch between True Bypass and DSP Bypass modes.

Disconnect power, hold the MOMENTARY footswitch, and reconnect power. The DROP TUNE LED will flash to indicate the mode.
