Quick guide from the manual
The Eventide Knife Drop is a multi-effects pedal featuring an aggressive distortion, a monophonic analog-style synth, and footswitch-enabled octaves. It uses an ADSR-style envelope to sweep the cutoff frequency of a resonant lowpass filter. Key operations include adjusting filter positions (pre- or post-distortion) and managing octave textures via dedicated footswitches and LED buttons.
Device controls
The pedal features several knobs to shape your sound:
- Synth Mix: Blends the monophonic synth with the input signal. Fully clockwise provides pure synth.
- Drive Amount: Adds distortion and grit (most effective past 2 o'clock).
- Output Level: Adjusts output from -12 to +9 dB (0 dB at 12 o'clock).
- Attack: Sets the filter envelope attack time from 0 to 1000 ms.
- Filter Resonance: Increases the resonance of the lowpass filter.
- Cutoff Frequency: Selects the starting frequency for the filter envelope sweep.
Footswitches and LED buttons
- Active Footswitch: Toggles the effect on or off.
- Active LED Button: Toggles filter position. Green = pre-distortion, Red = post-distortion, Off = bypassed.
- Octaves Footswitch: Turns the octaves effect on or off.
- Octaves LED Button: Toggles octave selection. Green = upper octave only, Red = upper + sub octaves, Off = octaves off.
Connections and setup
The rear panel includes:

- Input: Standard TS (Mono) or TRS (Stereo).
- Outputs 1 & 2: In mono, both outputs carry the same dry signal.
- Mono/Stereo Switch: Set to Left for Mono (TS) or Right for Stereo (TRS).
- I/O Level Switch: Left for Guitar (instrument), Right for Line/effects loop.
- EXP: Connects an expression pedal, aux switches, or TRS MIDI.
- Power: 9VDC center-negative.
- Mini USB: Used for software updates and MIDI over USB.
Expression pedal and presets
You can map knob parameters to an expression pedal for smooth morphing between heel and toe values. To program: press pedal to heel, adjust knobs, press pedal to toe, adjust knobs, then save. To clear mappings, hold the Active Footswitch and the Active LED Button until the Preset Ladder LEDs flash twice. Presets can be saved by holding the Active and Octaves LED buttons, and loaded by holding the Octaves Footswitch.
System setup
To enter System Setup, apply power while holding the Active Footswitch and Alt LED Button. You can configure the EXP jack, MIDI channel, and bypass mode (Buffer, Relay, DSP+FX, or Kill Dry). For technical support, contact [email protected] or visit eventideaudio.com.

Before use
- Verify power supply is 9VDC center-negative.
- Set the I/O Level Switch correctly for your instrument (Guitar vs Line).
- Set the Mono/Stereo switch to match your cable type (TS vs TRS).
- Download H90 Control for advanced routing and preset management.
Specs in practice
- Attack (0-1000 ms)
- Controls the speed at which the filter envelope opens.
- Output Level (-12 to +9 dB)
- Adjusts the final volume; 0 dB is at the 12 o'clock position.
- Bypass Modes
- Options include Buffer, Relay, DSP+FX, and Kill Dry for signal routing.
Images and diagrams
- The top panel shows the primary knobs for Synth, Drive, Level, Attack, Resonance, and Cutoff.
- The rear panel diagram identifies the Input, Outputs, EXP jack, Power, and Mini USB port.
- System setup diagrams illustrate how to use footswitches and buttons to toggle global settings.
Model compatibility
- Supports standard TS (Mono) or TRS (Stereo) input cables.
- EXP jack supports Expression Pedals, Aux Switches, or TRS MIDI.
- Requires H90 Control software for full preset management and routing.
