The JBL Arena X is a high-performance 3-way active component speaker system. Important: This system requires an active DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and a 6-channel amplifier (or a combination of 4-channel and 2-channel amplifiers) for proper operation. Do not wire drivers in parallel on the same amplifier channel, as this can cause overheating and damage due to low impedance. Handle Beryllium tweeters with care; do not touch the domes or expose them to open flames.
Product Overview
The Arena X system features a 1-inch Beryllium dome tweeter, 3.5-inch midrange driver, and 6.5-inch woofer. It is designed for seamless integration in automotive environments, utilizing magnetic grilles and innovative mounting rings.
What's in the box
- 1 pair of woofers, tweeters, and midrange drivers
- Grilles and decoration rings for all drivers
- Tweeter mounting fixtures (oval ring, oval plate, metal plate)
- Screws and gaskets
Installing the Beryllium dome tweeters
Choose a location high on the door panel or A-pillar for optimal stereo imaging. Use the included mounting accessories:

- Oval ring and plate: Use for custom mounting applications. Secure the plate to the mount, push the tweeter into the ring, and secure with screws.
- Metal plate: Adapt for factory tweeter locations or weld to metal mounts in the door panel.
Installing the 3.5” midrange drivers
Mount near the top of the doors or on the A-pillar. Place the driver against the mounting surface and secure with supplied screws. Ensure the magnet protrusion does not interfere with window or door latch operation. Use insulating material between the mounting surface and the ring to absorb vibrations.
Installing the 6.5” woofers
Typically mounted in the doors. Mounting higher raises the soundstage, while lower mounting improves bass response. Follow the same mounting precautions as the midrange drivers regarding magnet clearance and vibration insulation.

Powering the JBL Arena X Speakers
Use a DSP to provide the appropriate frequency range for each driver:

- Tweeters: 1kHz – 40kHz
- Midrange drivers: 200Hz – 6kHz
- Woofers: 60Hz – 6kHz
Connect each driver directly to its own amplifier channel. Use 16-14 gauge wire for tweeters and 14-12 gauge wire for midranges and woofers.
Safety Precautions
Due to the nature of Beryllium, do not touch the tweeter domes with your fingers or any body part. Do not expose the tweeters to open flame to avoid the possibility of poisoning by inhalation.
Technical Specifications

- Power Handling: 100Wrms (Woofer), 50Wrms (Midrange/Tweeter)
- Frequency Response: 20Hz – 40kHz
- Impedance: 4 ohms
- Sensitivity: 90dB (2.83V @ 1M)

Practical help
Common problems
Do not wire two or more drivers in parallel on the same amplifier channel. Each driver must have its own dedicated amplifier channel.
Some reddening of the glue edge may occur over time depending on the environment; this is a normal characteristic of the acoustic adhesive used.
Ensure the magnet protrusion of the midrange or woofer does not interfere with window or door latch operation inside the door panel.
Before use
- Verify you have a 6-channel amplifier or a combination of 4-channel and 2-channel amplifiers.
- Ensure an active DSP is available for crossover and equalization settings.
- Check mounting depth: Woofer (72mm), Midrange (37.5mm), Tweeter (38.5mm).
- Prepare insulating material to place between the mounting surface and the driver ring.
- Verify wire gauge: 16-14 gauge for tweeters, 14-12 gauge for midranges and woofers.
Specs in practice
- Power Handling
- 100Wrms for woofers, 50Wrms for midrange and tweeters. Ensure amplifier output matches these ratings.
- Frequency Response
- System range is 20Hz to 40kHz, requiring active DSP crossover settings.
Images and diagrams
- Wiring diagrams show the connection of the DSP to amplifiers and individual drivers.
- Mounting diagrams illustrate the use of rings and plates for tweeter and woofer installation.
Model compatibility
- Requires an active DSP system for operation.
- Not suitable for passive crossover setups.
