Important Information

This document provides installation instructions for the PRL Motorsports Subframe Reinforcement System (SRS), model PRL-HC10-SRS. This product is designed for 2016-2021 Honda Civic models (Sport, SI, Type-R, Base). Please note that this is a Race Only product intended for competition use and is not for use on public streets or highways. This item does not require ECU re-calibration.

Required Tools

  • Ratchet
  • Extensions (6 - 12 inch length)
  • Metric Socket Set (10mm-19mm)
  • Torque Wrench (up to 80 ft/lb minimum)
  • Jack and Jack Stands

Component List

Ensure all components are present before beginning installation:

Component List
  • SRS1 through SRS9 inserts (various quantities)
  • Tube of Copper Anti-Seize

Installation Overview

The installation process involves lowering the subframe to insert reinforcement pieces. Use extreme caution when lowering the subframe to avoid damaging the fuel filler neck or motor/transmission mounts. Always support the subframe properly using a lift or jack stands.

Front Subframe Installation

  1. Lift the vehicle and support the front subframe in at least two spots.
  2. Remove the front crossmember brace.
  3. Loosen all bolts highlighted for SRS inserts, leaving about 2 full turns into the chassis to prevent the subframe from hanging.
  4. Lower the subframe until held by the bolts, then raise it back up to just clear the bolt heads for maximum clearance.
  5. Install inserts one at a time, greasing only the faces that contact the body and subframe with the provided anti-seize. Avoid getting lubricant in the bolt hole.
  6. Hand-thread bolts as much as possible when reinstalling to prevent cross-threading.
  7. Use a 15.5mm alignment rod through the subframe into the body to ensure proper seating before tightening.

Rear Subframe Installation

  1. Use extreme caution when lowering the rear subframe. Support it on the crossmember using a jack stand or pole jack.
  2. It is easiest to do one side at a time.
  3. Loosen all bolts, leaving at least two full rotations, then lower until the insert fits between the body and subframe.
  4. Follow specific orientation instructions for SRS6 through SRS9 inserts as detailed in the diagrams.

Torque Specifications

Front End:

  • Bolts marked in pink: 69 ft/lbs (Type R and SI models), 67 ft/lbs (all others)
  • Bolts marked in white: 76 ft/lbs
  • Bolts marked in yellow: 28 ft/lbs

Rear End:

  • 2 and 4 door vehicles: 54 lb-ft
  • 5 door (hatchbacks): 47 lb-ft

Post-Installation

After installation, take the vehicle for a short test drive to listen for any clunks or groaning from the suspension. Re-check torque specs on all hardware after driving a few miles. Finish with a professional vehicle alignment.

Practical help

Common problems

Subframe alignment issues

Use a 15.5mm alignment rod through the subframe into the body to ensure proper seating before tightening bolts.

Cross-threading bolts

Always hand-thread bolts as much as possible when reinstalling with inserts installed.

Lubricant interference

Only lubricate the faces of the insert that contact the body and subframe; avoid getting anti-seize in the bolt hole as it will skew torque readings.

Before use

  • Verify all components from the parts list are present
  • Ensure vehicle is lifted and subframe is supported
  • Have a torque wrench capable of at least 80 ft/lbs
  • Check for factory air box removal requirements
