Quick Guide from the Manual

The Siemens SIMOTICS 1LE0 series are totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC) 3-phase asynchronous motors with IP55 protection. They are designed for continuous duty (S1) and are suitable for general-purpose applications such as pumps, fans, and compressors. These motors comply with ISO, IEC, and GB standards.

Mechanical Design

The connection box is located on the top of the motor housing as standard and can be rotated by 4x90 degrees to allow for cable entry from different directions. The motors feature a grey cast iron frame (RAL 7030). Standard mounting types include IM B3, IM B5, and IM B35.

Cooling and Ventilation

Motors are fitted with a radial flow fan (IC 411). For low-speed operation or high-speed applications exceeding synchronous speed, a separately driven fan (Option F70) is recommended to improve motor utilization and reduce noise.

Electrical Design

The motors are designed for temperature class 155 (F). At rated output with line-fed operation, they can be used in temperature class 130 (B). They are capable of handling overload capacity of 1.5 times the rated current for 2 minutes.

Motor Protection

Various protection options are available, including:

  • PTC Thermistors: For thermal overload protection (tripping or alarm/tripping).
  • PT100/PT1000 Resistance Thermometers: For precise temperature monitoring of windings or bearings.
  • Anti-condensation Heaters: Recommended for motors in humid environments to prevent condensation (Option Q04).

Converter-fed Operation

1LE0 motors are suitable for variable speed applications. When using a converter, ensure the installation guidelines regarding electromagnetic compatibility are followed. For frame sizes 250 and above, insulated bearings are recommended to prevent damage from bearing currents.

Maintenance

Bearing life depends on operating conditions, load, and speed. FS280-355 motors come with re-greasing devices as standard. For motors without re-greasing devices, the grease lifetime is matched to the bearing lifetime under normal operating conditions.

Practical help

Common problems

Motor overheating

Verify if the load torque exceeds the admissible limit. If so, forced ventilation (separately driven fan) is required.

Excessive noise or vibration

Check if the motor is operating above 60Hz (requires special balancing) or if the mounting is rigid. Ensure bearings are properly lubricated.

Condensation inside the motor

Install an anti-condensation heater (Option Q04) if the motor is inactive in a humid environment.

Before use

  • Verify that the supply voltage and frequency match the motor nameplate.
  • Ensure the mounting type (e.g., IM B3, IM B5) is correct for your application.
  • Check that the connection box position is suitable for your cable entry requirements.
  • Confirm if a separately driven fan is needed for your specific speed range.
  • Check if the environment requires specific protection options like anti-condensation heaters.

Images and diagrams

  • The connection box can be rotated 4x90 degrees to accommodate different cable entry directions.
  • Mounting diagrams illustrate the physical configuration of feet and flanges (e.g., IM B3, IM B5).

Model compatibility

  • Motors are suitable for variable speed drives (VFD).
  • Insulated bearings are recommended for frame size 250 and above in VFD applications.
