Quick guide from the manual

The Wampler Cory Wong Compressor and Boost is a dual-function pedal designed for both studio and stage use. It combines a signature compressor with a versatile boost circuit. Key features include an XLR output for direct connection to mixing desks or PA systems, a ground lift switch to eliminate noise, and a "Comp On" switch for permanent compressor engagement. The pedal operates on 9V DC power.

Device Overview

The pedal features several rotary controls to shape your sound:

  • Attack: Controls compression response. Turn counter-clockwise for fast attack, clockwise for slower attack.
  • Volume: Adjusts the output level of the compressor circuit.
  • Tone: Adds presence and brightness when turned clockwise.
  • Sustain: Adjusts how long a note rings out.
  • Blend: Mixes the dry and compressed signal. Fully counter-clockwise is 100% dry; clockwise increases the wet signal.
  • Boost: Controls the level of boost when the boost footswitch is engaged.
  • Boost Mode Switch: Selects between a flat frequency boost or a rich, saturated mid-boost.

Operation

The pedal uses two independent footswitches:

  • Compress (Left): Toggles the compressor circuit. The LED turns green when active.
  • Boost (Right): Toggles the boost circuit. The LED turns blue when active.
  • Dual Active: When both sides are active, the LED turns rainbow white.
  • Comp On Switch: Located on the side, this switch permanently engages the compressor circuit, bypassing the footswitch control.

Connectivity

The pedal includes an XLR output for direct connection to a PA system, mixing board, or audio interface. If you experience ground noise when using the XLR output, engage the Ground Lift switch located on the side of the pedal.

Power Requirements

This pedal requires a 9V DC power source. To avoid damage, do not exceed 9V DC, do not use center-pin positive adapters, and do not use AC power. The pedal draws approximately 30mA.

Signature Settings

The manual provides recommended starting points for different tones:
