Quick guide from the manual

This document provides instructions for setting up and operating the AcuRite 02445SBDI rain gauge. Key steps include installing batteries in both the display unit and the rain collector, ensuring the A-B-C ID switches match on both devices for synchronization, and placing the collector on a level surface away from obstructions.

Device components

The system consists of a display unit and a self-emptying rain collector. The display shows current rainfall, history, and alarm status. The collector features a tipping bucket mechanism that measures rainfall continuously.

Installation and setup

Battery Installation: Remove the battery compartment cover on both units. Insert 3 AA alkaline batteries into the display and 2 AA alkaline batteries into the collector. Ensure correct polarity (+/-) as indicated in the compartments.

A-B-C Switch: Both the display and the collector have an A-B-C ID switch located inside the battery compartment. You must select the same letter (A, B, or C) on both units to ensure they synchronize correctly.

Placement: Place the display in a dry area. Install the rain collector at least 0.9 m (3 feet) above the ground on a level, solid surface. Keep both units at least 0.9 m away from electronics that may cause interference. The maximum wireless range is 30 m (100 feet).

Operation and modes

Use the MODE button to toggle between EVENT, 1 DAY, WEEK, TOTAL A, and TOTAL B rainfall data. The HIST button displays historical readings, and the CLEAR button resets data for the currently selected mode.

Calibration

The rain gauge can be calibrated for improved accuracy. You will need a plastic cup with a small hole, a pin, and a screwdriver. Fill the cup with 8 oz of water and let it drip into the collector. The display should register 42.67 mm (1.68"). If it does not, adjust the two calibration screws located under the tipping buckets.

Maintenance

Clean the units with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use caustic cleaners. The rain collector must be brought indoors during freezing temperatures to prevent damage from ice expansion.

Common problems

Display shows dashes

Units are not synchronized. Bring them indoors, remove batteries, reinstall them starting with the collector, and wait a few minutes for connection.

Display shows zeros during rain

Check if the tipping bucket moves freely. Manually tilt it to see if it registers. If not, perform the reset procedure.

Rain recorded when there is no rain

Ensure the collector is mounted securely on a level surface so it does not wobble in the wind.

Before use

  • Remove protective film from the LCD screen.
