The AcuRite 06034RM Rain Gauge is designed to measure rainfall and transmit data wirelessly to a compatible display. To ensure accurate readings, the device must be placed on a flat, level surface, at least 3 feet (0.9 m) above the ground, and away from obstructions. Regular maintenance, including cleaning the funnel and applying water repellent to the tipping cups, is essential for optimal performance.

Setup

Follow these steps to prepare your rain gauge for use:

1. Separate the cover: Squeeze the tabs on the sides of the base and lift the rain gauge cover upwards.
2. Access battery compartment: Squeeze the two tabs on each end of the battery box to remove it from the base.
3. Install batteries: Insert 2 AA alkaline batteries into the battery compartment.
4. Syncing: If you are using a display unit (not included), ensure the A-B-C switch located in the battery compartment matches the setting on your display unit.
5. Reassemble: Securely place the battery box back into the base and re-attach the cover.

Installation

Proper placement is critical for accuracy. Follow these guidelines:

• Surface: The rain gauge must be placed on a flat, level surface.
• Location: Avoid low spots that could become flooded or areas with obstructions above the gauge.
• Height: Mount at least 3 ft (0.9 m) or higher above the ground for optimal wireless range.
• Mounting: Locate the two holes on the rain gauge base and fasten it to a sturdy surface, such as a deck railing or fence post, using screws (not included).

Care & Maintenance

• Cleaning: Clean the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use caustic cleaners that could damage the polished surface.
• Debris: Regularly clear debris from the rain gauge funnel to ensure rain flows correctly.
• Tipping Cups: After cleaning, apply a small amount of liquid water repellent to the tipping cups and gauge funnel to improve rain collection.
• Freezing Temperatures: Bring the rain gauge indoors during freezing temperatures, as residual water inside the unit could freeze and cause damage.
