This document provides instructions for the Acurite 00590A1 wireless thermometer and self-setting clock. The device features an indoor main unit and an outdoor wireless sensor. The clock sets itself automatically based on the selected time zone. Ensure you have 4 AA batteries (not included) for initial setup.
Initial setup
Important: The main unit is for indoor use only. Keep it away from dust, dirt, mold, smoke, and extreme temperatures.
- Install 2 AA batteries into the main unit first. It will automatically display the time for the Eastern time zone.
- Install 2 AA batteries into the wireless sensor. Use lithium batteries if outdoor temperatures may fall below -4°F (-20°C).
Setting time zone and DST
- Press and hold the CH./SET button for 4 seconds.
- The time zone will flash. Press the + button to cycle through options.
- Press CH./SET to confirm and proceed to DST settings.
- Press the + button to cycle through DST options and confirm.
Using the main unit
Setting an alarm:
- Press and hold the ALARM button for 5 seconds until the hour flashes.
- Use + or - buttons to adjust the hour (check AM/PM).
- Press ALARM to confirm and move to minutes.
- Adjust minutes with + or - buttons.
- Press ALARM to confirm and exit.
Snooze/Light: Press the SNOOZE bar to silence the alarm for 10 minutes or to activate the backlight for 8 seconds.
Placement
- Main Unit: Place at least 10 feet away from other electronic devices. Use the fold-out stand or wall-mounting slot.
- Wireless Sensor: Must be within 100 feet (30 meters) of the main unit. While weather-resistant, it is not waterproof; place in a protected area.
Maintenance and batteries
The device uses two internal L1142 button-cell batteries for the calendar memory. Replace these every five years (or annually if the unit is frequently unplugged). You have less than one minute to replace them before the calendar memory is lost.

Common problems
The internal backup batteries only power the calendar, not the alarm functions.
Alkaline batteries may freeze below -4°F (-20°C). Use lithium batteries for outdoor sensors in extreme cold.
Ensure the main unit is at least 10 feet away from other electronic devices.
