Important Information

This guide provides instructions for installing the Alphacool GPX-N 1080-M01 water cooler. Please read all safety instructions carefully before beginning. The assembly is performed at your own risk. Ensure you have an antistatic mat and appropriate cleaning solvents (e.g., alcohol) before starting.

Preparation and Dismantling

Place your hardware on an antistatic mat. Begin by carefully dismantling the original cooler. Depending on the cooler structure, remove the screws at the back of the card and carefully unhook the fan connector. If the original cooler uses thermal glue, exercise extreme caution to avoid damaging components. Clean all hardware surfaces of old thermal paste or pad residues using a solvent.

Thermal Paste and Pad Application

Apply a thin, uniform layer of thermal paste to the GPU using a plastic strip or spreader. The layer should be less than 1mm thick. Remove the protective film from the thermal pads and place them on the memory chips and voltage converters as indicated in the manual. Note that some pads (30mm x 30mm x 1.5mm) may require trimming to size. Ensure protective film is removed from both sides of the pads.

Cooler Assembly

Place the assembled cooler onto the graphics card. If there is a protective film on the cooler base, remove it before installation. Clean the contact surfaces on the bottom of the cooler with alcohol. Mount the screws with washers as shown in the manual, but keep them slightly loose initially. Ensure the cooler makes proper contact with all components.

Final Installation and Maintenance

Place the backplate onto the graphics card. Apply slight pressure to ensure optimal contact between the backplate, cooler, and graphics card. Tighten the screws crosswise with one turn each. After approximately 12 hours of use, re-tighten all screws to ensure a secure fit. The graphics card is ready for use once the cooler is securely mounted and checked.

Safety and Warranty

Do not use tools like wrenches or pliers to tighten connectors; hand-tightening is sufficient. Over-tightening can cause damage not covered by the warranty. Ensure the cooling system is leak-free before full operation. The maximum water pressure in the loop should not exceed 0.8 bar. Always verify that the pump is functioning when switching on the hardware.

Practical help

Common problems

Cooler not making contact

Check the thermal paste imprint on the GPU. If the imprint is poor, the cooler may not be seated correctly.

Leaking or damaged threads

Do not use tools to tighten connectors. Hand-tightening is sufficient. Using tools can overload plastic parts and cause leaks.

Overheating

Ensure all protective films were removed from both sides of the thermal pads and that the pump is circulating liquid.

Before use

  • Prepare an antistatic mat.
  • Remove all protective films from thermal pads.
  • Clean old thermal paste residues with alcohol.
  • Verify pump function before full operation.
  • Perform a leak test before final installation.
  • Ensure screws are tightened crosswise.

Specs in practice

Max Water Pressure
0.8 bar. Do not exceed this pressure to prevent leaks.
Thermal Pad Thickness
1.5mm and 3mm pads are included; ensure the correct thickness is used for the specific component.

Images and diagrams

  • The manual provides a cutting pattern for thermal pads to ensure they fit correctly on memory and voltage converters.
  • The manual illustrates the correct thermal paste imprint for a GPU.

Model compatibility

  • Designed specifically for the Alphacool GPX-N 1080-M01 series.
